A popup camper is a popular choice for many people looking for an affordable camping choice.  There are many reasons to choose a popup camper.  Even though it has many advantages, there are down sides as well.  Here is some information about popup campers.

Popup campers are very economical.  They cost much less than a travel trailer.  This is usually the next step up to tent camping for those who like to camp.  You can get a popup camper for as little as $500, but most people spend closer to $5,000-$10,000.  It really just depends on what you want.  The nicer popups with more amenities will run you more money, but if you just want something basic, you can get away with spending much less.  Many people buy their popup camper secondhand because you can get such a good deal that way.  Even new, popup campers are much cheaper than travel trailers or fifth wheels.

Popup campers are also good for fuel economy.  In today's era of skyrocketing gas prices, pulling a heavy travel trailer is hard on the gas tank.  Popup campers, however, can be towed easily and with much less impact on gas mileage than their larger counterparts.  Most popups are so lightweight they can be towed by the average truck or van without a towing package.  You also don't need special mirrors because popup campers do not obstruct your view.

There are a few drawbacks, though.  A popup camper takes more time to set up and take down than a traditional camper.   You have to use a crank or a lift to get the top up.   Then you have to slide out the beds and unfold and set up the inside.  It typically takes about an hour to set up your campsite.  They are also not so good in inclement weather.  High winds and pouring rain are not fun to ride out in a popup camper.  But, with any good thing there are bound to be some drawbacks.  You just have to weigh the positives with the negatives and decide what is the best choice for you.

Popup campers can also come with many amenities that make them so much nicer than tent camping.  You can get refrigerators instead of using a cooler.  They also have the option of heating and cooling systems.  You can even get them with toilets and showers.  There is even a hard sided popup camper.  This is much more expensive though.  You can get them as fancy or basic as you choose, and as your budget allows.

Popup campers can be a great choice for families who love to camp, but don't have the money to invest in a travel trailer.  They offer more options than tents, and are much more comfortable.  Although there are some downsides, in general, popup campers are economical and convenient.
