If you are like me, the thought of even going outside sends you into a mad sweat. Yesterday, I started the car only in horror to realize the temperature on the gauge-107. That is just absurd.

Unfortunately, life dictates and hiding out in the air conditioner is not an option. This is especially true if you have kids. What are some ways to get out and still stay cool? Here are five quick tips to cool off and make summer vacation enjoyable despite the heat.

Water Day
There is so much you can do with water. It is a known fact that cold water, cools everyone off. So plan a water Day. Schedule a water gun fight. Turn on the sprinkler, pull out that slip and slide or head to the local pool. Paint with Kool-aid and ice on a stick for a fun art project. Enjoy popsicles as a snack. Throw water balloons. All of these can be spur of the moment, spontaneous activities that will cool off the hottest days. Paint with water. Have young kids? Put out buckets of water with paintbrushes and have your kids paint the house or fence. It will entertain and they will have fun splashing the water on the house. Or if you want to incorporate some cleaning, get in swimsuits and clean the car. Have fun splashing and spraying the water.

Spend the day at the mall
Need to get out of the house? The mall is a great air-conditioned alternative. These days, malls have the best attractions for kids in order to entice you in. Our local mall has an awesome free playground for the kids. It also has coin operated rides. Have fun window-shopping or let the kids go check out the new toys. All the walking will surely drain their energy.

Hit the Library
The libraries have tons of programs during the summer months. This is a great place to be during the summer because it keeps your kids learning at the same time. Libraries tend to be cool and it gets you out of the house. It also offers many adventures for the kids as they explore different books.

Hit the movie theater
Many movie theaters have special showtimes just for kids. The AMC theaters have a special summer movie club with $1 movies on Wednesdays. Movie theaters are always nice and cool. It gives the kids a cool break from the heat.

Go get ice cream
What kids don't like ice cream? Nothing taste better during the summer months than ice cream. Those worried about calories can get fruit smoothies or slushes. Either way, the kids will enjoy the cool treat. You will enjoy the opportunity to cool off after getting out of the house.

Enjoy the summer with your kids and explore new places and experiences. If you have any suggestions, feel free to leave them in the comments.
