Breast cancer has been and still is always in the limelight of today's major medical issues that all women may have to one day face. Not only is it a death-threat, it is also an emotional path to destruction. Not only do we-as women-have to go through the discomfort of a breast exam; we also have to go through the even greater discomfort of the ever-dreaded mammogram. I soften the procedure of the exam by calling it just discomfort' because that is the word the examiner usually uses, when it is actually quite painful.

But your doctor may require further testing just to make sure the mass is not a cancer.
This could be done in the form of a minimally invasive' breast biopsy. One way the biopsy is performed the patient is placed on her stomach on a special table with openings to allow access to the breasts from beneath. A needle is then inserted into the growth to draw out tissue for testing. For patients who may not be able to lie in this position for long periods, the procedure can be done in a sitting position. Any way you look at it, it isn't something that a person would look forward to-even knowing that it has to be done.
If the biopsy shows cancer and depending on the severity of the case, a radical mastectomy may be required. The horrors of breast cancer become more and more devastating with each new day. Now a person may not only have struggled daily with all the physical trauma, but has to deal with the emotional scars as well. Some women after going through all the horrors of tests, biopsies, radical surgeries, may feel they have reached the end of their rope and prefer not to go through the added suffering of more surgery required for breast implants or reconstruction.
If you are or know someone who is one of these ladies, something so unbelievably simple has recently been opened to the concerned public. Something that may be of interest to you or someone you know.
The Knitted Breast. Although I cannot print the pattern for you, anyone interested in the pattern for this wonderful invention can easily find it on the Internet. And the pattern is free for any personal or non-commercial group use. The inexpensive cost of yarn, the softness, durability, and ease of duplication by any of you ladies out there who have the ability to knit-a talent I sadly never developed-makes this seem to me an invaluable creation.
Score one for the ladies!
