Bias and discrimination in the workplace, are you for real? Ok lets look at the title as follows. I have already written to this sometime ago and being one who has suffered concerning some aspects identified I find it is all symptomatic of the Easter Bunny Syndrome that has swept this nation. A recent article outlined this well so i thought since I have written to this in the past I would elaborate again.

What is it that I am talking about? Ok here goes-

1- New study indicates basically what I have know since my days on Wall Street. Taller people get better pay and faster advancement. Why, Easter Bunny. It has nothing to do with ability it is all perception and "that's a fact jack'. No matter where you go in life you will find this in the majority of cases. if you are short wear expensive shoes and tie and be extra neat. Females should dress business, period.

2- Are you left handed, well guess what, the same applies here in every way.

3- Married men usually make more and gain advancement quicker then singles. Once again the same applies.

4- Non drinkers of either sex are also likely to be paid more and advance quicker.

Now there a lot of factors that play into this but what it all boils down to is culture, indoctrination, perceptions, bigotry, discrimination and anything else that you can throw in the mix. The fact that capability, education, experience and what you have demonstrated is a non factor in promotions or income is scary.

So take the advice of the experts.

A] stop drinking

B] Learn to be left handed

C] Wear lifts or go get stretched. Oh you mean lifts is cheating. Common now in this day and age. Wouldn't that alone get you that raise?

So you who have a height self esteem problem know that unless you are above average in height you will do well. Unfortunately, those who are exceptionally tall will also suffer some type bias and discrimination as well.

Well when I was working on Wall Street I didn't have a one. Yet once I got married, I stopped drinking socially, and I learned how to dress for short, I got promoted to officer. Hey who knows, if I became left handed where I could be now? Best wishes, Robert
