We would all love to own designer sunglasses. They are incredibly fashionable, last for years, and protect your eyes from the damaging rays of the sun. Names like Gucci, Chanel, Dolce and Gabbana, Prada, and Christian Dior are just a few of the designers whose sunglasses are extremely popular. Celebrities are pictured wearing the latest designs and they set the trend for what names will make the biggest splashes of the season. There is only one thing stopping us from owning dozens of Coach and Fendi sunglasses and that, of course, is the price!

Brand name sunglasses on average cost $200-$400 dollars. There are always models that are outside of this range but you can expect to pay at least $100, and around $300 if you want this year's new model, to own a luxury brand pair of sunglasses.  It is smart to look for discounts because they are out there. Oftentimes, it is best to look online for these discounts but beware, knockoffs are everywhere! You need to be careful not only because you want to receive a genuine product but also because buying a fake can do damage to your eyes. Counterfeit sunglasses break and shatter much more easily. These knockoffs are also made to look like the original product, not provide you the same sun protection. Oftentimes, these lenses do not protect you from the dangerous ultraviolet radiation, which can do a lot of damage to your eyes over time. To ensure that you do not purchase counterfeit sunglasses, follow these tips:

1) Pay attention to the price. Go in with an idea of how much the originals cost. If a seller is offering it to you at 85% lower than the original number, this should be a major red flag because retailers would not make any money by selling an original at that much of a mark down.

2) While looking online, look for certain phrases. If it says "Inspired By" or "Replica," these are not the real deal.

3) Pay attention to the workmanship. Stay away from lighter materials. You can even compare photos. A logo is also something else you can evaluate. Keep an eye out for different fonts or letter sizes.

4) The packaging can be a dead giveaway. Designer sunglasses would never come unpackaged or in unmarked plastic or felt sleeves.

5) Look and compare the arm markings and model numbers. You can print off a list of genuine model numbers so that you can check them against a pair of glasses you are looking to buy.

Owning brand name sunglasses does not have to break the bank but keep your eye out for knockoffs and cheap imitations that won't protect your eyesight! Discounts are great as long as you are still receiving the genuine product!
