The Masters Tournament also commonly known either The Masters or The U.S. Masters is amongst the four major golf championships. It is an "official money event" on the PGA calendar, amongst the PGA European Tour and the Japan Golf Tour. It was established jointly by Clifford Roberts and Bobby Jones.

The Masters are basically programmed during the first week of April and are the first major that marks the start of all the majors. In contrast to the other chief championships that take place annually, it is held in the Augusta National Golf Club. During the current year Trevor Immelman won and bagged prize money of US 1.35 million. As per the format of all the Masters Tournament this tournament is also held in accordance with the special rules and regulations that have been set by the Masters Tournament Committee.

The Masters is usually the first major championship of the year, played so that the final round is always on the second Sunday of April. Similar to the other majors emerging victorious in this major cements the individual golfers' career. It makes the champion eligible for playing in the other three tournaments through the following half a decade along with a lifetime invitation to the Masters. It honors amateur golfers too in honor of the establisher of this tournament who himself was an amateur golfer. It extends invitations to the champions of similar amateur tournaments held all across the world. Care is taken to place the defending Masters champion against the current U.S. Amateur title holder.

Because of the cheapness of the tickets they are hard to get hands on. Same is the scenario with the practice rounds. In fact an application for the practice round tickets has to be made almost a year in advance and the participants are chosen by ballot whereas the tickets to the actual tournament are available only to the members who are listed on the patrons list. During the current year this particular tournament started allowing free attendance to children aged between 8 and 16, in case they were to enter on tournament days for free if they are escorted by an adult.

The youngest champion to date is Tiger Woods, who bagged the 1997 championship at the age of 21 years and 104 days. He also busted the record for the achievement of a win by the biggest. As far as the oldest champion is concerned this feat has been recorded by Jack Nicklaus who won it at the age of 46 years and 82 days back in the mid of eighties. He is also the proud holder of the maximum number of top ten and cuts that are 22 and 37 respectively.

A new contest by the name of Par 3 was introduced in 1960 and Sam Snead was its first winner. To date no player has won the masters' tournament and the Par 3 in the same year. Read more information about masters golf and get discounted Masters Golf Tickets .
