Are you not sure what friendship means, sadly if this is the case then there is every possibility you could be missing out on one of life's beautiful necessities. Having a true friend at your side makes life a lot simpler and less complicated. A solid partnership involving two people brings closeness like that of being joined at the hip. Having a friend in which we can confide helps overcome those obstacles which crop up from time to time. If situations occur that requires a shoulder to cry on then a true friend will surely lend theirs to you. Laughter is always meaningful whether the friend sees the funny side, or the not so funny side to the joke you split your sides laughing at.

An exceptional mixture of loyalty, love, belief, trust, devotion and heaps of fun is perhaps the best way which explains the true meaning of friendship. Because individuals differ so do their opinions.

Some people believe a true friend will not cause them any pain. For others, it is unconditional love or a type companionship. In psychological terms, friendship may be defined as a dynamic joint relationship between two people (opposite sex or same gender.) Friendship is a two way agreement where both people give to each other. Chances of a friendship surviving is zilch if reciprocation of friendliness is only one sided. Strong bonding friendships normally flourish from school days. It is true we cannot pick our family but we sure as hell can pick our friends. The choice is yours on whom you wish to take under your wing and them you.

It is without doubt that friendship is a blessing, and a friend is the channel through whom vast emotional, spiritual, and sometimes physical blessings flow. Friendship is an everlasting phenomenon regardless of worldly changes. If you feel like a lost soul living your life as Billy no mates remember, a stranger is a friend you have never met. The world is full of friendly people waiting to meet and greet.

Friendship is all about sharing - so I would like to share this with you all "My Friends"

One day a boy called James was walking home from school when he noticed another kid from his class on the opposite side of the road whose name was Kyle. He was laden down with what looked like every school text book he owned. 'Why would Kyle bring home all his books on a Friday? He must really be a geek.' said James to himself and continued on his journey home. Suddenly a gang of hooligans ran towards Kyle knocking him over to the ground long with his pile of books. His glasses went flying caused by the impact. James ran over to help and saw the heartbreaking sadness in the eyes of the trembling wreck that undeservingly had fallen victim to neighborhood bullies. Kyle still in a state of panic ran his fingers blindly trying to locate his glasses. James handed him his glasses, and saw a tear in his eye as the boy struggled to pick up the books and steady his wobbly legs. 'Those guys are jerks' James said.

Kyle looked up and thanked James with a forced a smile on his frightened face but one of which showed real gratitude. One thing led to another and they both got talking only to find out they both lived near each other. James asked Kyle why he had never seen him before, what with living so close. Kyle replied he had gone to private school. I would have never hung out with a private school kid said the knight in shining armor. They both struck up a friendship playing football and going bowling together along with other things that boys do.

Monday morning came, and there was Kyle laden with books again. James made a wise crack and said you are going to build some serious muscles carrying this pile of books everyday! Kyle just laughed and handed half the books to James. Over the next four years, Kyle and James became best of friends. Both boys left school and went onto college, Kyle attended Georgetown and James went to Duke. Distance was never to keep them apart.

Kyle was going to be a doctor and James studying business on a football scholarship.

Kyle was valedictorian of the class and was teased all the time about being a nerd by James. It was nearing graduation and Kyle had to prepare a speech. James accepted the invitation to attend. Kyle was one of those guys that really found him-self during high school. He filled out and actually looked good in glasses. Kyle was nervous about his speech. James signaled encouragement by slapping him on the back and said, 'Hey, friend, you'll be great!'

Kyle looked into James eyes, thanked him, smiled and went onto make his speech. Once his throat was cleared he began 'Graduation is a time to thank those who helped you make it through those tough years i.e. parents, teachers brothers, sisters but mostly your friends. I am here to tell all that being a friend to someone is the precious gift you can give them.

James looked on with disbelief as he told the story of the first day they had met when they were boys.. Kyle had planned to kill himself over that weekend. He talked of how he had cleaned out his locker so his mom wouldn't have to do it later, hence the reason for so many books. He glanced over at James and smiled.

'Thankfully, I was saved said Kyle. My dear friend saved me from doing the unspeakable.' James heard the gasps from the crowd as this handsome popular boy told all about his weakest moment. At that minute Kyle's parents looked across to where James was standing with tear filled eyes. James at that moment realized the depth of the whole situation.

Never underestimate the power of your actions. With one small gesture you can change a person's life. God puts us all in each other's lives to impact one another in some way. Look for Good in others. 'Friends are angels who lift us to our feet when our wings flap no more.' There is no beginning or end and yesterday is history while tomorrow is a mystery and today a gift.

hi kacy,

what a good article. it was filled with a little bit of everything.

i believe a simple gesture can change another's life. i heard a story of an old man who was looking for something in the aisle at a food store, and it was to be Thanksgiving, and he would be alone, no family, no friends, and he got what he needed, and as he passed a young lady, she said "Happy Thanksgiving" to him, and he thought about it, and decided not to kill himself that weekend. you never know who you affect or who can affect you.

thanks for sharing,

my best,

sue

Thank you Susan if only the signs were visible of troubled people - then maybe we could do a little more for them and help them through their troubles.
