I am trying to reconcile something within my mind.
Barack Obama won the 2008 Democratic primaries due to having more votes than Hillary Clinton, also more delegates and superdelegates. He is the first African American, and she the first woman, to vie for a major political party nomination. This obviously is history in the making.
Seeing as I believe the above statement is the truth, here is the problem - unhappy Hillary supporters. I can understand not being happy that Hillary didn't win, but to make statements such as "I can't support Obama, Hillary should be the nominee", stop right there. When Clinton did not win, are her supporters going to take their ball and go home? These supporters are furious, and threatening to either sit out the election or vote Republican. These are the actions of spoiled children that did not get their way, not politically savvy adults.
If the Hillary supporters have an issue, it is not with Obama. The problem is with the process. My suggestion is to work to change the way that the candidates are chosen by the party, starting in January 2009. If the Democrats are serious about winning the White House, I must say this - Hillary has called for party unity, so it's time to stop whining and get to work. GET OVER IT. If not, John McCain will win due to a fractured Democratic Party.
It will be interesting to see if the Republican Party projects party unity at their convention. Time will tell.
