There are negative experiences in life we keep in our minds and bad attitudes we develop that are of no value to our spirituality. They are useless, dead weight that stunt and hinder our daily spiritual walk. They can be defined as junk.

The problem is that many Christians hold on to their junk. It lingers in our minds and stays in our hearts. Some of us have held on to our junk for so long we have forgotten what happened to create it. Many antiques have value, but our junk only brings our spiritual walk to a crawl. This junk puts us in spiritual bondage and is detrimental to us both spiritually and physically.

Take a minute and ask yourself, what is your junk? Could it be bitterness, pride, guilt, a past failure, a broken relationship, or some other feeling or attitude that is cluttering your spiritual outlook?

Some of us strive to get rid of our junk, but we cannot. It is like an addiction we cannot control. Others of us by choice keep our junk because we enjoy it or we are not sure of how it would be living without it.

But it is time for Christians to get rid of our junk. It cannot be done in our own power, which is why many of us have failed in our past attempts. We have tried to get rid of it our way, with our plan. But to get rid of our junk, there has to be a new, awakening spiritually in our lives. Hebrews 12:1 says: "Therefore, since we have so great a cloud of witnesses surrounding us, let us also lay aside every encumbrance, and the sin which so easily entangles us, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us".

Through the power of the Holy Spirit, we can cut loose our junk in order to come into a true spirituality and a true knowledge of God.

We must earnestly pray for God's power through the Spirit to deliver us from our junk, to remove it. Even though our junk has had a hold on our minds and hearts for years, God has the power to break that hold. Nothing is too hard or impossible for Him. But, He must see we are sincere in our desire to be set free from our junk.

We can also get rid of our junk through knowing God's Word and obeying it. If your junk is not having a heart to forgive others, you can dump your junk if you are obedient to God's Word. God's says we should forgive others just as He has forgiven us of our sins. He says that if we expect Him to forgive us we must be willing to forgive others.

If your junk is a habit stemming from sexual immorality, you can dump your junk if you are obedient to God's Word. God says make no provision for the flesh in regards to lust. He says to turn from sexual promiscuity and sensuality.

Our junk is also removed by the renewing of our minds by the Holy Spirit. With a renewed mind, we have a renewed outlook. If our junk is greed or materialism, a renewed mind will give us a new perspective. Instead of a material possession focus, we will focus on having a spirit of giving.

So it is time for Christians through the power of the Holy Spirit to get rid of our junk. Let's dump the junk and walk in true spirituality.
