John McCain will speak about something that matters.
Barack Obama accepted the Democratic nomination on August 29, 2008, a history making occasion.
On August 30, 2008, John McCain responds with a history making decision. He has chosen Sarah Palin, currently the Governor of Alaska, as his running mate. She is the second female nominated for the office of Vice President (Geraldine Ferraro was the first) She has been governor for two years. She is a fresh face on the national political scene. However, why did McCain make this particular choice?
Is he pandering to those "disaffected" Hillary supporters? Is McCain trying to close a perceived "generation gap" with Obama? Hopefully, McCain will explain his pick. One thing that can be said, Palin is not a "safe"pick. This is getting more and more interesting by the minute, but is there a cost?
According to various news outlets, Governor Palin is currently under investigation for abusing the powers of her office. She is alleged to have fired the Alaska Public Safety Commissioner for failing to dismiss her former brother in law after divorcing her sister. This will probably be one of the first issues brought up.
Secondly, as McCain has tried to talk about Obama's lack of experience, Palin doesn't have much. Will this take the experience argument away? She has been an executive on the state level for two years, not on the national level. Will this gamble pay off on November 4th? Will the investigation or the lack of experience eventually become a burden and cost McCain the election? We will see.
Palin does have a 80% approval rating in her home state. She could be the first female Vice President. Folks, this is gettin' good! I only hope that the McCain - Palin ticket has been put together for the right reasons, not to manipulate the masses. Once again, let the chips fall where they may, minus the mudslinging. Let's get ALL the facts out before making our decision.
