I used to walk a road full of pain

Until I heard of the One who was slain

How deceived I was--just playing the game

Until I heard of the One who was slain

Enjoying the fun and feeling no shame

Until I heard of the One who was slain

Sin is fun--so very fun

As long as I'm not hurting anyone

Spiraling down a bumpy hill

As the sin in me has its fill

No where to run no where to hide

Ashamed of the man I am inside

Yes, I used to walk a road full of pain

Until I met the One who was slain

His light too bright--I turned away

Sin calling me back for another day

Why did I let it lead me astray?

My heart is sick--Sin no longer fun

Now I'm living on the run

Return to Me, cries out the Savior

Won't you let me do you a favor?

I am the One who can set you free

Please do not continue running from Me

Once again His light shines bright

This time I surrender to the warmth

Clinging to it with all my might

Now I know true peace joy and love

Having fun with the One from above

Sin no longer causing me shame-

For I have been washed--given a new name

By Jesus Christ the One who was slain

He is calling you--won't you do the same?

(C) Teresa Ortiz 2008

Teresa grew up in a single-parent home in the rough parts of Los Angeles. She learned early on how to take care of herself...or so she thought. She had "street smarts", but was on a self-destructive path. Even though God knocked on her heart's door at 16, it took years for her to surrender to Him. Since then, her life has never been the same.  She is an encourager, a wife, a mother, and a daughter of the Most High God. She is an author, speaker and teacher. Her greatest joy is leading others closer to Christ by using a practical approach to the study of the Scriptures. For more information, visit www.inseason2tim.com

HI Sue, thank you for reading and you wonderful comment. I have no clue of the rules for poetry, but I gave it a shot. I was praying about what to right and sharing my thoughts with God and this is what came out.  I 'm pretty sure it was His hand on mine.

Have a wonderful day! Love, t

Hi Marguerite!  Thank you for the great words! I will print it out on some stationary to match the wedding theme, or let me know if you would like to print it out if you already have something picked out.  Who knows where God is going to take us after J graduates :-)

I am sharing an abreviated version of the message I have for the retreat with the ladies at the mission next Sat night.  I am looking foward to seeing you and the all the girls!  Thank you for sharing your gifts and for the hard work you are doing to put the retreat together. You are the creative one. All I have to do is show up--you have the tougher job.  I know its going to be beautiful. Thank you for having me.

AWSOME and so true! I thought your poem was excellent and it definitely reminded me of how blessed we are to have Jesus who paid the price for us. I fall short everyday, yet Jesus always draws me back. I don't want to live wihout Him.

Hugs, love and blessings

Hi Michelle, thank you!  Isn't it wonderful to know that His love is not based on performance?  I am with you--never, no never will I choose to live without Him!

Thank you Angie.  I was just praying about what to write, and this is how the feelings of my heart came out.  I believe it was God breathed and I am glad you were blessed.  I think I like poems. I never gave it much thought before.

Please keep sharing your heart with us as well. I am blessed by how God is using you!  I appreciate the support!

Hi David, thanks!  This was my second attempt at a poem.  I wanted something that conveyed my testimony in summary--without all the gory details, and this is what came together.  God is gentle in his woo-ing process!
