The shock has settled and the country is now searching every avenue to find out who Sarah Palin is and why was she chosen as John McCain’s future vice-president.

It has been entertaining to watch reporters scramble the last couple of days to dig up anything and everything they can on a candidate they knew nothing about just days before.

So who is Sarah Palin and does she have what it takes to keep the Republicans in the white house? I think she does.

I am just the average mom who struggles to make it paycheck to paycheck. I am not even pretending to speak for the women of America since we all know how mad that would make any woman in America today. I am just giving my point of view.

The more I learn about Palin, the more impressed I am. I have to admit before seeing this woman, I never thought I would vote for a woman to be in any office with so much authority. Palin seems different. She seems to have a light. She seems to represent all that a woman leader should be in this situation.

She has convictions and she stands by them no matter what the consequences may be and she does so without giving in to the negative men around her. She is pro-life and when that issue stormed into her life with a pregnancy that was certain to produce a down syndrome baby, she held her beliefs high and gave birth. She did so despite enormous pressure from constituents and staff. Groups that were already criticizing her because she was pregnant as governor were adding to the pressure in a normally emotional time for a woman. Her response: have the baby and be back at work three days later.

She has a record of getting jobs done. Most women do. Behind most great men is a women encouraging, poking and pushing him along. So what is the difference here.

What I think I like the most about Palin is that she is newer to the political games and willing to take on whatever necessary to get a job done. We need more of that in Washington and she seems like just the woman to do so.

Women multi-task every day by doing jobs, taking care of children and being a wife. Palin has already proven she can do this as well. I am impressed at how American she really is: she is a true mom, knows sports, has a son who will be fighting in Iraq, has a son with downs,   raised in an all-American family of a teacher and a coach, married a working class Eskimo, etc. She knows what it is like to do homework with the kids, carpool to hockey and still have to worry about her own work responsibilities while still remaining attractive for her husband.

She is a former beauty queen and played on a state basketball team, which she served as the prayer leader on the team. She is what every Type A personality strives to be in America.

This is all just on a personal level. It does not mention all her political experience where she exposed government corruption even when it meant taking on her own political party,

As a woman, I find her impressive. I can finally relate with a female candidate and be willing to cast a vote for one. This is no knock to Hillary, but honestly I would never be able to relate to that woman. I don’t think she has had one real moment in her life. In no way could Hillary ever relate to me on an individual level. Palin can in more ways than I can count.

Was Palin a good choice? Yes, as an American mom and woman, I believe so! Besides how many former sportscasters have been elected to serve in the white house? J Check out the video from the 80’s-did her hair not fit in with the times?

Excellent article Abigail, my sentiments exactly. I have just posted an article similar to this which I hope you'll read, entitled Sarah Who For Vice President? She is the first politician I've found lately with integrity. It takes a lot of guts to expose corruption among those who have been considered friends.

Goodbye Obama/Biden

Abigail my sentiments exactly. Although unknown I think she can do a fine in helping McCain overcome his many drawbacks. Certainly as a  mom and accomplished leader she eliminates the experience question and she definitely throws in a good dose of family values. I consider myself a middle of the road person yet I can't buy into either party. Sorry, I've been sold out too many times. Good job though!.

Great article, Abigail. Interestingly enough, you write an article from a woman's perspective and, so far, the only three commenters are men. :-) Go figure!

Anyway, I think your article inadvertently highlights the one possible downside of Sarah Palin -- she comes off as possibly being a bit too perfect. That will automatically turn some voters off.

A woman who hasn's spent enough time with her daughter is what I see. The whole world now knows that the morals of american families is on display in the Republican party....

If you watched the speech last night you will see that she doesn't come off as being anything more than who and what she is. Its great to finally see someone who is more like the rest of the women in the world, and not all that perfect.

And to answer the comment of Anonymous, children specially teenagers can't be watched all the time. They need to make their own mistakes and then learn to live with them. Are all teenagers not having sex? PLEASE this has been going on since the first teenager walked on this earth.

We can not talk our children out of having sex only teach them what is right and what is wrong and then leave it up to them to make the right or wrong choice.

She stands by her daughter because that is what mom's do. What to worry about morals? Then stop watching TV, going to the movies and go hide your head under a blanket. WE all make mistakes and WE all have to live with them.

Good article as a personal perspective, even though I completely disagree with every point you have made. I will say she was not as cartoonish in her VP debate as I had expected to see, but was not duly impressed, either. My sense is that Palin appeals to the lowest common denominator, and that the sheer numbers of those constitute her popularity base.
