If you're trying to sell your home right now, you're probably already aware of how much competition there is out there. There are more homes on the market than there are buyers, so sellers need to pull out all the stops in order to have a successful sale. In addition to conventional strategies such as making necessary repairs, staging your home well, and keeping the price down, there are also less orthodox tricks you can employ in order to bring some positive mojo to the sale of your house.

The law of attraction, the power of positive thinking, and self hypnosis are all part of the same as realm as meditation and visualization. To some, these methods of creating positive change are nothing but New Age hooey, while for others they are viable and in fact very effective ways to get what you want out of life.

One of the basic tenets involved with visualization and the law of attraction is to concentrate more on what you want rather than what you don't want. So often we get caught up in the day-to-day struggles and focus only on the negative aspects of our lives. This can be especially true among homeowners who are trying desperately to sell their home. You may hear negative news reports talk about the housing bust, and then develop a defeatist attitude. Thoughts plague you like: "my home's never going to sell in this market," or "I'm not going to get the price I need."

These ideas start out simply as thoughts, but soon become unconscious beliefs. When you're stuck in a negative mindset, you are essentially setting up a self-fulfilling prophecy. If the energy you're emitting is negative, that's what you're going to get in return. Therefore, if you believe your house is not going to sell, it most assuredly won't.

This is why it's imperative to redirect your thoughts to what you want instead of what you don't want. In order to do that, the first step is to figure out exactly what your goal is. Do you want the house to sell within a specific time frame? What price would you like to get? What kind of buyer do you envision buying your home? Once you glean the specifics of your goals, you can put all your energy into making them happen.

Now that you have a list of wants, spend your free time focusing on them, and imagine what it would be like if they all came true. How would you feel? Really allow your body to feel those emotions, and breathe deeply while you do this. Try telling yourself that your dreams have already come true. Say it out loud until you believe it. Be sure to frame these statements positively and using either the present or past tense like, "My house has sold for $450,000. I am living in a brand new villa on the beach, and I am very happy." It may seem hokey and awkward at first, but after a little practice, it will become more natural.

By visualizing success and repeating affirmations, you are telling yourself that you deserve to be happy, and you are telling the universe exactly what you want manifested in your life. With a little bit of faith and positive thinking, you can have a successful home sale.
