Recently, I have seen many articles about "tips for knowing you're pregnant" and "now I'm pregnant, what's next?" I know stories like these are really important and needed. What really scares me are the comments being left at the bottom of the stories where, in some cases, girls as young as 15 are asking for advice about possibly being pregnant.
This really scares me. Though I'm a man, I honestly can't believe girls and young women are asking what they should do to find out if they are pregnant.
Some quotes look like this: "I had sex without a condom and felt my boyfriend release inside me. It's been 6 weeks since I last had my period, what should I do?"
HELLO!!! Go see a doctor! Get a pregnancy test, something!
Seriously, even as a man I can tell you the smallest of steps to take if you honestly think you're a young lady who might be pregnant.
Step 1: Buy a pregnancy test.
Not only should you buy one, buy a couple. Get the multiple packs (the ones with 3 or more in them) that way if you feel the first might not have been accurate enough for you, you can try again. Also, you have more for later use. Have your boyfriend/lover help cover the cost of it with you and I stress "with you." You both made the choice to have sex; you both can pay for the test together.
Step 2: See a doctor.
Honestly, this one, in my eyes, screams "wake up!" If you think you're pregnant, go see a doctor ASAP. It will benefit you and your (possible) baby. You might just learn something. Once again, have your boyfriend/lover go with you.
Step 3: Tell your parents.
Look, I know you might not want to hear this one, but let's be honest with ourselves. 15 year old boys and girls are exactly that boys and girls. You're not adults yet, nor should you be making adult decisions like sex at the age of 15. Ask yourself; are you really ready to have a child at 15? So, whether or not you are pregnant, you need to sit down with your parents and let them know you're sexually active. And if you are pregnant, the first thing you need to do is let you parents know! You might be surprised to how understanding they might be. Sure, they might be really mad, hurt, angry, etc but you are their child and most parents will not leave their child in the cold. Talking to your parents will be the best decision you make.
Hope these simple ideas help you. I know this is common knowledge, but with so many young girls posting comments on these pregnancy stories really has me worried. Good luck.
