Emo music, first coming to the ears of many kids in the mid 80s, has crossed over into fashion since 2002. Like Disco and Metal of the 80s, (you know, Disco's crazy bellbottomed pants and sequenced shirts and 80s Metal's tight spandex and extremely teased hair) Emo music has its own fashions sense for both young men and women. Here is a guide for those crazy emo boys on how to properly dress "Emo."

Hair:

Emo boys need to have distinctive hair to help them appear even more emo than the next kid on the block. The best way to achieve this is to not wash you hair for an extremely long period of time. Once you have accomplished this, try throwing all different kinds of gels and goo into your hair. Then, pull the back of your hair up as far as you can. This will either make a spike or flip. I prefer the spike. Next, take the top and front of you hair and choose the eye you feel is your weakest. Pull your hair over you eye to cover it. The trick to this hair do is to spend a ton of time on it, making it look like you spent no time at all on it. I know, very confusing. Adding different colors to your hair is also a must. First bleach you hair white. Then add a standout color, like red or blue to a small section in the middle front. Then, dye the rest of your hair black. Bleaching your hair first helps the color standout better and keeps the color in longer.

Tops:

Emo boys need to have vintage shirts to wear, it's a must. The best thing to do is find old clothes you used to wear as a kid or pre-teen and wear then again. The tighter, the better. Also, you could find old band shirts (Van Halen, Kiss) and wear those as well. Remember, all these shirts need to be as tight as possible. If underarm hair sticks out from under the sleeves of the shirt, shave it off. Trust me on that. Also, for added effect, you can cut holes in the shirts to make them look even more vintage. If you want to wear a jacket, track jackets are the best way to go. Never wear a leather jacket. Also, hoodies are acceptable to wear but only if a band name is located somewhere on the hoodie.

Bottoms:

Emo boys need tight pants. It really doesn't matter how large a person you are, tight is the honest way to go. The best way to achieve this is to wear girl's jeans. No questions asked - girl's jeans. Also, the only acceptable shorts an emo boy should ever wear are 8os gym shorts. That's it.

Shoes:

The best footwear for emo boys are Converse Chucks. Never any form of boots or athletic shoes, just Chucks. Chucks provide a canvas for the typical emo boy to draw or paint on, further expressing their emoness. Flip-flops can never be worn; they show too much toe and skin. If an emo boy wants to branch out a little, than shoes with crazy colors made by Nike or Puma are acceptable, but only if they are designed for looks and not actual athletics or comfort. Once again, never wear boots of any kind. That's too nu metal.

Accessories:

The more, the better! Necklaces are a must. They can be simple or extremely wild. Bracelets can also be worn, keep them black for the most part; leave the color bracelets for the ladies. Never exceed three bracelets per arm. Also, piercings in the ears or the face are also acceptable, just be careful not to have them ripped out during shows. Belts are also a must. One or two belts can be worn, one in the pant straps, one hanging over the hips. Also, if wearing two belts, one must have a belt buckle on it. If you choose not to fix your hair, the onle acceptable headwear you can wear is a skull cap with a bill on it, slightly turned to the left or right. Military caps are no longer acceptable. If you are an emo boy and you want to carry a bag, messenger bags are the only acceptable bags to carry. Messenger bags should only hold a mp3 player, a book and posters for upcoming shows. Emo boys should never put their wallets in the bag, thus making it a purse.

Complete these simple guidelines and you will be hardcore emo, good to go!
