By now I am sure that many of you have seen the commercials for the new sitcom to hit the air real soon called "Gossip girl". It's truly sad that this generation needs to have such garbage on T.V. to be entertained. Unfortunately, you know this show will be a hit, it has to be, it's full of people gossiping and ruining other people's lives, and that's what this generation likes to call "Entertainment". What ever happened to shows like, I love Lucy, or Seventh Heaven, where values and morals meant something?
What we have are shows that teach our children and yes adults to, how to behave, by demoralizing, degrading and hurting others to make ourselves look or feel better by causing some else to feel pain. Does anyone else besides my self see something wrong with this behavior? This show does nothing but, promote gossip and teaching all who watch it to do the same. Parents will let their teenagers and even younger children watch this show, because they are, either unwittingly or with full knowledge, know that this show is dictating how their children will act now and in the future. I read one time, that our brains are like filing cabinets, what you store there now can be pulled out later and used to solve life's problems. Watching shows that teach you how to gossips, back bite and hurt others is just something that our society doesn't need any more of. We have enough of it going on in real life, just watch the campaign trail. How the gossip fly's rampant about each candidate and their families.
I have watched how gossip in a work place, church, or neighborhood can make everyone uncomfortable, especially the one that the gossip is being spread about. It's very hard to correct a nasty rumor that has been spread about someone, and the damage may never fully be corrected. Gossip doesn't necessarily mean that the story is untrue, gossip can be true stories spread viciously to hurt others.
What has our world and generation turned into? The bible speaks about taming the tongue in several places. It is a sin to gossip and backbite, regardless of how big or how small the tidbit of information may be. I am human and to say that I have never gossiped would be an out right lie. The biggest test I have encountered lately about gossip is at work. The nasty rumors about others in the office are bad, and I for one have taken a stand and will not repeat them. I have even gotten to the point when people are gossiping in a circle; I will leave, and will not join it if it's going in on. I have also seen how gossip in a church can destroy a person, turn them away from God; and now what have we done? We have caused a soul to turn away from God. I believe that we are held accountable for our actions, and causing a soul to be lost, because of vicious rumors, well, I for one don't want to fill those shoes come JUDGEMENT DAY!
James 1: 26 If any man among you seem to be religious, and bridle not his tongue, but deceives his own heart, this man's religion is in vain.
James 3: 5 Even so the tongue is a little member, and boast great things. Behold, how great a matter a little fire kindleth.
James 3: 6 And the tongue is a fire, a world of iniquity. The tongue is so set among our members that it defiles the whole body and sets on fire the course of nature and it is set on fire by hell.
As you can see, our Lord and Savior has warned us about how bad it is not to tame our own tongues and made it very clear that it is a SIN. If we continue with our gossiping ways, we need only to look at James 1:verse 26 to clearly understand where we stand with our Lord.
My pray is that this new show is a flop and removed from the air. We don't need this trash filtering it's way in to the brains of our young ones. It's truly shameful how society as a whole lives by the gossiping tongue.
How do you feel about the new sitcom "Gossip Girls" that will soon be on the air?

Wonderful article, Angie. We certainly don't need lessons in 'how to gossip'; unfortunately we are born with that ability--or at least learn it as we grow. I personally have never watched the show--hopefully it stresses how gossip hurts and demeans a person or persons (the gossiper as well as the gossipee). And to add insult to injury--we now have 'Family Guy'--and they ask, 'where are those good old family values?????'
Thank you for your comments and I can see that you are right on board with how I feel. I don't watch family guy, simpson's, or any other shows like that. If more people could see them for what they are then we might not have so many on T.V., with out the ratings the shows don't make it. But, with our society, they thrive on trash. It's truly sad.
Thank you and I love writing articles for. I've just started but I truly enjoy it. I also love reading everyone else's articles also.
TV is pretty dire. I teach my children a way to behave, switch on the Tv and then have them saying 'she said a rude word', 'why did she hit him?' and so on. Even in the alleged tamest of shows there is bad behavior that contradicts what we try to teach. The best plan is to keep the Tv off!
I absolutely agree with you, keep the T.V. off. I believe what children see on television can some what undo what parents teach their children. I wonder what this generation would think if a family didn't own a T.V. The comments would be amazing to say the least.
