Millions of singles wonder about the one that got away.
The girlfriend or boyfriend that they fell head-over-heels for… but for some reason the relationship just didn't work out the way they'd hoped.
And millions of singles want a chance to win them back.
But getting back the ex can blow up in your face if you do it wrong. Remember, this is a person who you've already had a failed relationship with - so you're starting behind the ‘eight ball.' It's going to be far easier attraction someone new - than attracting the ex. But if want your ex back, your history can be overcome if you follow the steps below:
1. Date other people
This may sound strange, but dating other people will show that you're not hung up on them. It shows you have confidence, independence, a positive outlook, and have the ability to attract other singles. All this shows the ex, and all those around you, that you're a desirable person to be with.
2. Live an attractive life
Make sure your life is attractive enough that they want to re-enter your life. If you're an aimless couch potato who thinks watching TV is exciting, you're probably not going to attract the ex. However, if you've started working out, are taking surfing lessons, volunteer down at the YMCA, and are passionate about your chosen profession - you're going to look very attractive.
3. Use common friends
Tell friends you share with the ex how well you're doing. Give them examples of how you've moved on and made an effort to improve the way you live your life. This information will eventually get back to you ex and perhaps pique their interest. It may intrigue them enough to start thinking about you again.
4. Bump into them
If you don't run into them at some point you're never going to know whether or not you've got a chance at getting back together. This may sound stalker-esque but it simply has to happen. If you don't see them again there's no chance of reconciliation.
And don't make it obvious you're trying to bump into them. Let them think it was fate, not careful planning, that brought the two of you together again.
5. Treat them like an old friend
It is key you don't treat them any different than any of your other friends (even if you want to). Doing this shows that you've put the past behind you, and don't feel awkward in their presence. Chatting and teasing them like you would anyone else shows off your confidence, positive attitude, independence and moxie. The lack of neediness for their attention or approval will likely force them to see you in a new light.
6. Start off slow
Diving right back into a relationship if they show some interest will likely lead to you or them making the same mistakes or at least lower your chance of being successful in the long-term. So invite them out for a coffee, tell them to come down and volunteer with you, to take in a gallery opening - something simple. Offer them something that says, "I'm comfortable around you, but not stuck on you."
7. Read their level of interest
If they start showing signs of physical and emotional interest, play it slow and eventually hint at the idea of perhaps giving a relationship a second chance. Be very careful not to escalate things too fast. It's important they have though about getting back together again before you suggest it. Better yet if you can get them to make the suggestion.
8. Be prepared to move on
If they aren't interested you've got to accept that decision and move on. There's millions of attractive singles out there. Many of whom you'd get along great with... perhaps even better than you ever did with your ex. So pat yourself on the back for having the guts to make the effort to get back with your ex and go out and find the person of your dreams.
