Communication has always been up on the list of ingredients necessary to maintaining a good relationship. Faithfulness and loyalty are somewhat essential as well. My wife would like to throw in the ability for the man to follow orders makes for a happy household.

A study done by NDS cites that 79% of 1000 respondents feel that the DVR has improved their relationship. It is important to mention that NDS is a manufacturer of DVR technology.

I am a little surprised by the results, but I must admit I am a huge fan of DVR. Up until just a few months ago I had no idea of the importance of DVR. I know now.

The study does not give any real explanation as to the results. I have a couple ideas of why the DVR is so important in a relationship.

DVR means I no longer have to sit down and watch an episode of Jon & Kate Plus 8. I no longer have to watch America's Next Top Model. These are all good things that make me smile. This does not just make me smile, it makes me giddy.

The DVR also means that my wife and I can sit down together and watch a show that we both enjoy. This allows me time to rub my wife's feet and play with her hair. It is always good for a relationship when the couple can sit down together and the man can fawn over his wife or girlfriend.

There are no less fights since we no longer have to agree on what to watch. There is also no frustration, high blood pressure, pulling of hair, or VCR's being thrown across the room as a result of trying to figure out how to record a movie. You push a button. That is it. It is truly a beautiful thing.

Pretty soon video tapes will mean to the next generation what 8-tracks mean to mine. Archaic technology who's only purpose in the future will be that you can properly gauge exactly how old a person is based upon whether they have ever used video tapes before.

I have my doubts that marriage counselors will place having a DVR in the household high up on the list of things necessary to a good relationship. Honesty, communication, and faithfulness should obviously take priority.

That being said, give it a try. What could it hurt? At the very least on Sundays when your favorite NFL team is getting set to play and your wife jumps on the couch to watch that Lifetime movie she has been itching to see you will now have options.

Which event do you DVR? Shucks, that is another can of worms all together.

Very funny, Dan! We just got a DVR, and the kids are excited about it. Now, I see why I should be even more upbeat about this gadget than the kids are! Great writing style, by the way. Thanks! ~ Garswa

Thanks for reading and for the kind comments about my writing.  You are going to have to pry the dvr out of my cold dead hands.
