I know I am getting old now as the time has come for me to start ranting about
kids fashion trends, no doubt like my mother did before me and her mother before
her! I have been driven to rant on this occasion about emo fashion.
What
the heck is EMO culture anyway. What does EMO stand for... 'emotional'?
Let's start with boys emo hairstyles, euuuuuyyyyukkkk. That messed up
side swept laquered into place look isn't really doing it for me. If the hair
was meant to look messy and casual and 'bed hair' then why the heck are they
using a can of hair spray and spending 50mins to achieve this 'just got out of
bed look'? Maybe it's not meant to look like bed hair? Ooooooops
Then
there is the emo fashion, can we call it fashion? Dictionary........!!
As far as I can tell to achieve the ultimate emo look you nip to the
local charity shop (I have nothing against those) and then buy a selection of
50's ties and scarves, 80's zipper jackets and leggings and throw in some 60's
winkle picker shoes or baseball pumps and voila, emo is born!
I recently
read somewhere that emo boys wear girls underwear and girls jeans and that they
mainly dye their hair black, though other colors are optional.
I first
came across an 'emo' kid when watching 'celebrity hijack' a UK version of
celebrity Big Brother. The emo kid in question was a young 'genius' who had a
significant business empire. His emo hair got a lot of attention and criticism
in the media. I think he was before his time.
But now emo is all the
rage in the Uk and these strange looking creatures group together at parks and
shopping centre carparks to......swap hairstyling tips. Well at least they are
not getting into trouble!
Meanwhile wasn't EMO a character from that
kids TV program, Sesame Street? Aaahhh, no, that was Elmo! Well they look so
similar...
If you have read this far and have no idea what on earth I am
rambling on about, here is some info on emo culture.

I am all heart!
I actually love the younger generation, I have some of
my own. I wonder what they will be wearing when they hit puberty? Silver lycra
'fame style' leotards and legwarmers from the 80's perhaps?
