John McCain will attend Friday's debate with Barack Obama!
Ladies and gentlemen, you just can't make this stuff up. Say what you will about Obama, he has remained calm and steadfast in this time of national financial crisis. Multitasking is not a problem for the Democratic nominee, running a campaign and preparing for the first of three important debates. He did not attempt to inject his influence into the financial proceedings, which looked to most observers to be running smoothly. To date, Obama has looked confident and presidential in the last couple of weeks.
Where is John McCain as of the time this article is being written? He is on the way to the University of Mississippi, to debate Senator Obama. McCain will debate without a signed financial deal on the table in Washington? Tell me, after throwing down the gauntlet by "suspending"his campaign, lying to David Letterman about leaving New York, promising not to leave Washington until a economic deal was done, and apparently making things worse during ongoing bailout negotiations in Washington, what are we left to believe? McCain looks like a desperate, politically unstable, flip flopper. The "ready to lead" tag looks to belong to Obama, not McCain.
McCain has to be hoping for a knockout in the debate, for he and his campaign have had a terrible week. Rick Davis, the Letterman affair, stifling progress, moving his campaign to Washington and not actually suspending it, it goes on and on. Like it or not, McCain is tied to the unpopular President Bush simply by being a member of the Republican Party. He should have stayed away from the White House, instead of donning his cowboy hat and trying (or so he wanted us to believe) to save America. Those two in the same room did not deliver a maverick picture of Senator McCain. Bush and McCain are, once again, peas in a bad pod. Let's all continue to march on to November 4th. Until next time.
