Many companies offer 3 day trials for a small sum. Better yet, I would just read quality reviews from people that have been using the service for years. A 3 day trial won't tell you much about the future of the company or service. A review from someone using the service daily for multiple years will inform you of the credibility and quality of service the company is offering.
Usenet article distribution and downloads is usually done through applications on a PC or MAC. A Google search for "newsgroup software" should lead you to the right track.
