So you've decided to pop the question. You've probably put a lot of thought into this, researching what he or she would like without giving the game away. Sure you're practically a fully fledged
dectective at this stage. So, at the last lap you don't need to let yourself down, you need to ask her/him in style.
Below you will find some of our top ideas we've heard through the years. Don't forget to add personal touches to these ideas. You'll only get to propose once, so think long and hard before you decide.
Valentines or Birthday Engagements
Fill a room with flowers and transparent balloons in his/her favourite colour. Pop the engagement ring inside one of the balloons (before you blow it up), and then set your partner off on a challenge hunt armed with only a pin.
Get your partners favourite bun/cake and push the ring up through the bottom of the bun, place back in casing and stick a candle on top. Obviously stay close and watch it doesn't become the most expensive bun he or she has 'eaten'.
Romantic (Private)
Draw a story board of your time together so far. Start with when and how you met, right up to something you did recently. Then at the end draw yourself on bended knee, watch his or her face and produce the ring, bringing your cardboard drawing to life!
Get cracking on Windows Movie Maker on your PC. Use pictures/footage of your time together and then at the end have your newly produced footage of you proposing to your loved one. Totally year 2007!
Going one step further from the idea above. Purchase a domain name in your names, i.e. florenceandtim.com. On the main page, upload your video or photos declaring your love (and proposal of course), then text the link OR save it as your homepage, so whenever your intended one logs on to the internet they see it straight away!
Romantic (Public)
Ring the radio station he/she listens to in the morning. Tell them you want to propose live on air. Arrange a time when your loved one will be listening (and maybe not when he/she is driving). Make a date then to meet him/her in town, or your fave restaurant that evening. Let the celebrations begin!
Chose one of your favourite scenic spots. Go there yourself armed with picnic blanket, chocolates, flowers and champagne. When home, suggest going for a drive with your loved one and lead him/her to the location. For an added touch, go in the evening with a couple of fireworks.
Arrange to deliver a range of items through the day to your loved ones workplace. Start with flowers, then chocolates, then maybe a cuddly toy. Last but by no means least, deliver yourself to his/her workplace, get down on bended knee and show off that sparkler!
Short and Sweet
Spell out the words 'Marry me?' with your fridge magnets.
Put a note in his/her sandwiches.
Decorate your house with his/her favourite things, cook a nice meal and ask away!
Christmas Time
Replace the joke in a cracker with your written proposal.
On Christmas eve, place the ring box on the tree and send him/her in the right direction the next morning.
Get your Christmas cake iced and instead of 'Happy Christmas', have 'Will you Marry Me?'
Whatever you decide to do, we wish you the best of luck. Relax and enjoy that special occassion, and we look forward to welcoming both H2B and B2B at RealWeddings.ie to plan the rest of the big day!
