Sometimes, trying to solve a problem results in a bigger problem than the one "solved".
Let me tell you some true stories about real (grandiose) mess-ups in birth records.
An illegal soon to be mother, arrived at the hospital to deliver her first born baby and being afraid that her illegal status would possibly be discovered and she might face deportation, she gave a fictitious name when admitted to the maternity ward! Her baby was born without complications The child is an American citizen and has all the privileges of any American citizenship granted by our constitution.
So, what's the problem?
Ah! The damage we cause when trying to deceive the "system"! ! ! !
After a few years, this mother applied for an American passport for her American boy, but . . . the laws require that all minors have the parents consent to be issued a passport. . , now she most find a "mother" with the identity to match the fictitious name she reported!
Who will stand up and help this child (even if their name coincides with the one on the Birth Certificate?) But that's the minor problem The greater damage comes when trying to explain to the child that he is not an abducted child and the mother with whom he grew is in reality his "true" mother !!!
I perfectly understand the plight of the illegal population seeking to improve their lot on life and providing a "safe" place for themselves and their families (getting away from crime and revolutions so common in many 3 rd world countries).
However, they don't think of the consequences that these actions inflict upon the very ones they are trying to protect.
Should this child live in the foreign country for many years, upon trying to re-enter US, he will be asked to "prove" his identity by submitting information and documentation pertaining to his parents, family, siblings, etc (You see, many people try to enter the US with usurped identities of living and dead persons overseas).
Another similar case, the mother not wanting to disclose her status of "single mother", made up and listed a "father" for her child that did not exist.
To protect the illegal status of the true father another mother used a fictitious name when reporting the father of the child.
Don't they realize that "they will be trapped by the web of lies?"
In these days of "global terrorism" identities are very important! Imparting this information will help prevent future damage to innocent children!
