Here's the quote of the day about the bailout from an emasculated lawmaker.
"We're all worried about losing our jobs," Rep. Paul Ryan, R-Wis., declared in an impassioned speech in support of the bill before the vote. "Most of us say, 'I want this thing to pass, but I want you to vote for it - not me.' "
Mr. Ryan voted "Yes" on the bailout so I guess he wasn't talking about himself.
So Rep. Ryan thinks the bailout is the right thing for the country, but he thinks that some lawmakers would rather vote to save their political rear-end than vote to save the country?
Here's the definition for treason from Dictionary.com, make your own call.
treason /tri zn/ Pronunciation Key - Show Spelled Pronunciation[tree-zuh n] Pronunciation Key - Show IPA Pronunciation noun
1. the offense of acting to overthrow one's government or to harm or kill its sovereign.
2. a violation of allegiance to one's sovereign or to one's state.
3. the betrayal of a trust or confidence; breach of faith; treachery.
I don't know if the bailout is a good thing or not. What I do know is that I vote people into the government to make sure that these economic failures don't happen and if they do, I expect them to know what the correct thing to do is, and do it. I don't vote anyone in to act in such a way that simply ensures their long-term survival in office.
If it's true that the people get the government they deserve, we are surely all a pathetic bunch of nitwits.
