"Can I call you Joe?" she asked. He smiled and nodded, indicating, "Yes!"
I heard someone call the moderator "Gwen."
It was a good debate. Ms. Gwen Ifill was a good moderator for debaters Mrs. Sarah Palin and Mr. Joe Biden.
I like that first-name calling. I like Sarah saying, "Joe." I like Joe saying, "Sarah." I think it's neat for both of them to address "Gwen."
Think about others, the head servants of the taxpayers for the House that voted today, for example: Nancy, Barney, Rahm, and others. For the Republican minority, there's John and Roy, the minority whip.
Using first names in this setting could be significant, if we participate. Why do we address congresspersons as if they were more than they are, our elected representatives of the House and Senate?
I figure if the apostles of the Christian faith are called by their first names---Peter, James, John, Thomas, and Paul---then today's leaders should not be treated as royalty or as if they are our princes or kings of power.
It's time now for me to e-mail Barbara, Ben, and Elijah. The reports are that they "work hard" to represent Maryland and the seventh district. I will Google to find out how Elijah voted today, since he voted "No" the first time. I hope he did it again. I respect his right to vote his conscience, however. He will always have to run again, and if he serves 12 consecutive years, that should be enough for a while.
I think Barbara's time is up. She should sit out for at least six years before running again. I'll have to check on Ben and Elijah. I think one of them is ready for a recess, and maybe they'll come back again after two or six years.
That's the name of the game in Washington.
