Building memories are important to building a strong family. There are many ways to building memories, I find quilts are often included in making these memories. Listed below are just five ways to build family memories using a quilt.

1. Grab a book and a quilt head for a tree. Reading books while sitting on quilt under a tree is an experience everyone parent must experience with a child. There are no words to describe the fun that follow.

2. Build a tent in the front room with chairs and a quilt. As my children grew up I tried to have an Alphabet afternoon. Each weekday afternoon we took a letter of the alphabet, we had a theme day centered around a word that started with that letter. When we reached the letter C camping was always the theme chosen. We would built a tent and a pretend fire and "toast" marshmallows, one creative child even pretended her marshmallow caught on fire.

3. Snuggle on the couch with a quilt while watching a family valued movie. We love to snuggle while watching the old Disney movies. Our children share in all the beloved Disney characters, even though their peers are into the more modern movies. It is a source of fun in our home.

4. Don't forget the quilt when you go on a picnic. We have used the quilt for a table cloth, when I have forgotten the tablecloth, we used it to warm up with, sometimes we are caught in light snow showers. It is fun to sit on the quilt and watch the children play or to nap on after eating.

5. Teach your child to make a quilt, a small lap quilt made by the two of you will build lasting memories as well as increase self-esteem.

Don't stop with this list, there is so much to do with a quilt. There is a saying that quilts are made with love, and while this is true, I will continue to say that quilts help to build love and unity in families.
