Is there such a thing as FAIRNESS, HONESTY AND INTEGRITY in the world of politics? Lately we have heard this question bandied about by many commentators and pundits in the media.

Who knows, maybe the bar was set too high by our forefathers. Their main goal was to insure we preserve our democracy by protecting our freedom of speech.

When Clinton was running for the first time, the media appeared to be in the tank for him. Practically all newsworthy stories that would expose Clinton's scandalous and criminal behavior in Arkansas were kept out of the front pages of the major news publications. New York Times and Washington Post stuck them in the last pages with little or no fanfare. Shortly after Clinton was elected, the stories began to surface in mainstream media. What a surprise! Most of them were found to be true.

I've been following Presidential Elections all of my adult life and nothing surprises me. The media has one purpose only-TO HAVE A JUICY STORY! It's all about setting up an outrageous headline for the following day.

A candidate from either party who has been forthright and has played by the rules is not very exciting. What will the media speak or write about tomorrow if there is no controversy? The media is like the drug addict who needs a quick fix to get him through the day!

Can you imagine if McCain had brainwashed schoolchildren singing the virtues of McCain/ Palin? He would have been ridiculed and accused of child abuse! Actually, it is worse than that. Using children for self grandeur in a political campaign is nothing short of Lenin's Communism days. Did the media take Obama to task for this Socialistic trick? Very mildly with soft kid gloves Why the double standard?

As soon as Obama moves into the White House, the flood gates will open with all of the garbage about ACORN , his relationships with Jim Ayers, Jeremiah Wright, shakedowns contributing to the meltdown of our economy. The major networks and news media have kept all of these goodies in their back pocket.

Imagine, it took New York Times 21 months to finally start reporting about Bill Ayers! Less than a month before the elections! Is that fair reporting? But just wait till after the election, they'll be jumping the hurdles in a frenzy to cover all of the above.

Maybe candidates and their handlers should keep in check their killer instinct to destroy their opponents. Otherwise we won't have any gladiators left in the arena.

It's so apparent that most of the media is rooting for the "Rock Star" Obama. I suspect they have already placed a wager on him to win. Therefore, I want to remind them that this is not a cock fight!

Why is Obama held at a different standard than McCain?

Obama is not handicapped in any way as far as I can tell. The most obvious difference is their value systems. I always ask myself one question when I am confronted with making a decision to entrust someone. How did the person reach his or her goals?

I was taught to be wary of people with unscrupulous friends. Often times their own motives for befriending or soliciting connected individuals from dubious backgrounds may be an indication of poor judgment. You see, usually one hand feeds the other.

The same thing applies to the media. They need Obama now and will unleash the vultures to finish the job once he is elected. This is a sad commentary for the media.

Bear in mind that these are my opinions and do not reflect those of my business associates, friends or relatives. I enjoy writing about the daily foibles in our lives on various topics. Personal relationships, nutrition, politics, marketing. Aija Pelshe 516-433-4137

Aija,

I am glad these are YOUR opinions, not business one's. Both candidates have negative associations, so let's be fair. Has anyone discussed the implications of the Keating Five with you and how it affected the economy, especially in Arizona? The William Ayer's issue has been re-tooled over and over again. No one will remember any of this when Obama becomes president.

I beg to differ in your comments. If you doublecheck the records on the Keating issue, you will verify that McCain was absolved of any wrongdoing. NYT failed to report that!
William Ayers association reflects Obama's ideology of Socialism. Obama does not deny this concept. Read his books and see for yourself.  If you don't have a problem with that, by all means vote for Obama
.
I want a president who has values and stands by our Constitution. I do not need a "Messiah" President to take my money and distribute it to those who have not worked for it. I  make many contributions of my choosing. If  Obama chooses to associate with radicals, it just shows that "like minded people" attract each other.

We as a nation should not elect a Chavez or Castro follower for US President. This country will become a stagnant 3rd World nation with Obama at the helm.

his is not the time to experiment. Once you let a cancer thrive, it is very difficult to get rid of it.  Obama is already talking about forming a militia in inner cities. I thought we had a police department to keep the piece.

I came here as a child from war torned Europe after World War II. My family escaped the totalitarian regime and certain death from Stalin. We arrived here to seek freedom.  Once again, I am fearful of what lies ahead of us. May God be with us in the next 48 hours.....
