Dear Senator McCain,

May I ask - what in the name of common sense is wrong with you? This has nothing to do with your service to your country in a prior unjust war. I have the utmost respect for what you did and what you went through, I believe every American commends you for it.

We as a nation are in the midst of the biggest financial crisis since 1929. You, along with Barack Obama, are running to be the President of our great nation. It seems that every poll taken is suggesting that you are losing this race. So, instead of concentrating on issues, you know, health care, foreign policy, Wall Street "rescue" packages, the ECONOMY - you now have your sights trained on one thing - personally destroying Obama.

I don't want to hear about relationships with William Ayers or Jeremiah Wright. I don't want to hear that his middle name is Hussein. I don't want to hear that the mortgage crisis is Obama and the Democrats fault. I'm tired of you playing the blame game. Is that acting in a "Presidential" manner? That actually looks to be the actions of a elementary school child, who is trying to gain favor with a teacher by "brown nosing" - but you are doing this to the American people, not all of whom like the sensation of a cold nose on their hiney.

You have a couple of skeletons in your closet, along with your running mate. Your former good friend, Charles Keating, gave you lots of cash ($121,000) for your campaigns, you took plenty of trips to the Bahamas on Keating's private jet, and stayed at his home. You didn't pay for any of those trips until Keating was in trouble. Your multi-millionaire wife was cut in on a sweet real estate investment deal by Keating. You want to question character and decision making? Remember John, your incident occurred during a FINANCIAL CRISIS in 1989. Sound familiar? A rescue package for savings and loans? While talking about pastors, talk about Pastor Hagee. I don't need to say more.

John, Troopergate has not gone away. Maybe you should have looked into Sarah Palin more closely. Nice try with the pre-emptive strike, the letter from the McCain - Palin campaign clearing Palin of any wrongdoing. Did you forget, there is a special prosecutor completing the investigation, not you and your lawyers? The official report is coming! How about the Alaskan Independence Party. Did you see some of the things that the party founder, Joe Vogel, has said in the past? Hating America? No use for America or her damned institutions? By association with your Vice Presidential candidate and her party member husband, are you a hater of America? Guilt by association at its finest! You can't have it both ways.

Do us all a favor, Senator McCain. Stick to the issues and stop the mudslinging madness. If you can't do that John, there is one more thing you could do - get out of the race. Dissolve your campaign, and go home with what little dignity you have left. You now sound like you will say ANYTHING if it will get you elected. America just does not need that brand of politics right now. Thank you for listening, Senator McCain.

P.S. Tell Palin it is time to clam up. She will have to defend herself back in Alaska for abusing her power, and you might want to send a lawyer with her.

Well written and not provactive. The "just the facts" approach made the article very readable. Thank you.

Thanks Walter,

I think we will all be better off if either candidate won based on facts, not mud stained rhetoric. Thanks again.

Great article, JD. I couldn't have said it better. You covered all the bases and then some. I, too, am so tired of McCain's mudslinging and wish whole-heartedly that they could stick to the real issues at hand.

Thanks for sharing.

Hi Sandra,

Thanks for the complement. Looks like McCain might be fanning the flames a little less. Let's see if it continues. Thanks.

Hi Kathy,

There are certain areas that the McCain campaign should not go. McCain - Palin should have cleared their closets before trying to go after Obama. Keep watching, the negativity will backfire. Thanks, and a Happy Halloween to you.

Hi Sue,

I only want to see this race run correctly. Most of this negative stuff is coming from the McCain camp. Enough already with the mudslinging. Thanks.

Judge,

This article is a fine piece of journalism. Nice work and quite true. It's time to call a truce to the mudslinging - it is not working for McCain!

Hi James,

Thanks for the complement. Looks like McCain has regained some of his sensibilities in defending Obama as a decent family man and a citizen to a bloodthirsty crowd. Thanks.

Thank you JD! Stick to the facts, just the facts and let's move on to the issues. The mudslinging is way to toxic. Great article. I'll vote you in for President and then maybe we could get somewhere on the real issues.

God bless,

Judge Dred,

I cannot believe what you are looking at. At least John McCain takes a stance on a subject, Oboma has basically done nothing as a senator. What has Oboma done? Name something!! I have a lot of respect for Oboma and I am proud for what he is doing, but to be a leader of a great nation is no time to be nice. This world is mean, if Oboma cannot take the heat, then he needs to get out.

Steve,

You will have to clarify the meaning of not believing what I am looking at. McCain takes a stance - no, he takes many stances. Look at his various stances on the economy. How about his decision to run a honorable campaign, switch it to personal attack mode, then back off? He has also taken the stance of not wanting to talk about the important issues, he wants to talk about Obama's "character".

Many people don't seem to get that these two candidates are running on two different platforms. Obama is running on a platform of changing the Washington culture, while McCain runs on the experience platform. What has Obama done? I invite you to look it up. If Obama has not accomplished anything in your opinion, oh well. He is the current frontrunner, lack of accomplishment notwithstanding. Now McCain has "borrowed" the change slogan. Looks like Obama has handled the heat that McCain and his minions have thrown at him. The heat is on McCain as of now. Thanks for commenting.

I agree, from a review of the campaigns, Obama obviously is able to set the pace. MCCain stole his slogan--not the other way around. The rookie set the agenda.

Hi Walter,

There are a lot of McCain apologists around, but that's to be expected. Let's get this last debate going, and see if Obama can stay ahead in the polls. He set the agenda, now let's see if he can bring it home.

Hi David,

Looking in on what has been going on after the last debate, it doesn't look like McCain read my letter. Oh well, he will attack his way to defeat.

There is a distinct ugliness that I have seen repeated in every election since Clinton. Before Clinton, I don't remember the campaign rhetoric very much, except for some of Reagan's debates with Mondale, and I guess I had other things on my my during the first G.H.W. Bush term.

Yet, never once since I was able to vote (Carter-era) has bumper-sticker sloganeering ever led me to cast my ballot for the nastier campaigner. I can read ten well-written pieces about why one or the other should win, I might read a hundred. Most are simply unconvincing ideological expositions, and at their worst reaffirm my decision not to vote for that candidate.

peace,

- g

Hi Gregory,

Thanks for reading and commenting. This was a plea for McCain to stop the garbage, not that he is listening. November 4th is almost here, we can all shift gears after that day.

Indeed Judge Dred, I never had negative feelings about McCain before, and I would have been OK with a McCain Presidency, should that be the way it turns out. Unfortunately, I think these Presidential campaigns, even the ones from the past, seem to bring out the worst in people.
