Between the outer world of endless movement and the inner world of emptiness, there is the Middle Ground-a moment of introspection. If you (just like me) are feeling overwhelmed with your life becoming hectic and unpredictable these days, have a Therapeutic Pause.

What is a Therapeutic Pause:

Throw away whatever you're doing, take a piece of paper and a pen, and sit down. Preferably your window is open, so you can feel the fresh air, and preferably your neighbors are quiet. Think the fresh air is clearing up your mind, and then visualize something in nature that makes you feel good. It could be the ocean or the moon, a bird's song, or a more complex image. Then simply listen and let that object or image tell you their story. Write it all down in no more than 4 lines. Make it simple. Because of your uniqueness and individuality, the 4 lines will follow a particular rhythm, like music. This music is spontaneous, natural, like a wave. Let it be natural without changing it for this particular project. It will reflect your present state of being-emotional and mental, and it may completely change tomorrow. To feel the music in the story, when you're ready to read your poem out loud, simply pause after the first word of every line. Don't hurry. This pausing has one more purpose: it will allow you to deeply connect with nature and yourself. This is a fun project of getting in touch with yourself and your inner world. I hope you enjoy it and if you'd like to share, email me.

I'm sharing 4 of my poems with you as an example. They do follow a rhythm and make music I wish I could whistle to you, but regretfully that can't be done on a piece of paper.

Moment

Frog sitting on a leaf

Wind slowly passing by

Star shining in the sky

Feel happiness is brief.

Impermanence

Bellarietta Soliara 2008

Clouds changing in the sky

Time swiftly passing by

Days nearing the end.

Why?--who can understand..

Morning

Bellarietta Soliara 2008

Birds singing in the trees

Sun climbing up the sky

Crowds walking down the streets

Day following the night.

Attachment

Days going well feel great

Smile shining in the eyes

When storm is in the heart

Think: blessing in disguise.

"The most extraordinary and fulfilling journey is going inward. When one can navigate through shadow and light with ease and detachment, one becomes a master of his life. When one's light shines in the darkness for others, one's purpose is fulfilled."
