I have become so disillusioned with the entire political election in the United States that I am almost ready to just give up and not vote.  Then I remember that short black and white video clip of the D-Day invasion and I think again.  I know you have seen the short, old film clip where three soldiers just left a landing craft and were running up a beach.  In most clips you have viewed the third man to the left is just shot and falls dead.  Then (most clips end here) a few seconds later the next man in line is gunned down and also falls dead.

Whenever I grow disillusioned with the horrible display in politics today I think of the two soldiers that died that day.  We never will know their names and yet they died.  All of their hopes, dreams and abilities were ended at that moment.  So, I sit here now and I write this as an open letter to those of you reading who are not going to vote because of your disillusion with politics.  I write to those of you who will vote on a whim and really have no basis for that voting decision.

As you sit in your comfortable room right now I would request you take a moment to reflect on the fact that so many Americans gave their lives for you to have your freedom to vote.  So many Americans have had their lives destroyed through either outright death or bodily disfigurement.  So many Americans have come before us that gave all so that we today could be free and that is why I am sickened by the two Presidential candidates we have running for office today.  You listen to their debates and for 90 seconds we hear an answer and then for the next 60 seconds we are told that answer was a lie.  The after debate reviews reveal that statements made were either half truths or outright lies.

Somewhere along the way America has lost a bit of its glistening shine to the world because of the damage the two political parties have done to that shine.  In America today the politicians are more worried about deals and re-election then they are about whether it is good for the county.  All too often deals are cut to benefit the few and then the many must suffer.  Today we are so worried about hurting a group's feelings that we will let many more suffer.  In the political scene of America today the individual has become more important than the masses.  We worry more about protecting the safety of a criminal breaking into our home than the rights of the person who owns the home.  We, as a nation worry more about the welfare of the needy 10,000 miles away than we do about the school children in our nation's capital.  We here in America are more worried about the things that do not make America great.

So, as you prepare for the vote then vote for what is right.  Do not vote for McCain because he was in the Navy.  Do not vote for Obama because he is black.  Do not vote for McCain because he is not black.  Vote for the one that is going to do what needs to be done for the benefit of America.  Vote for the man who will bring pride back to those that live in the cities that have no jobs.  Vote for the man that will keep us safe from invading armies.   (Yes, invasion is not just something that happens only somewhere else) Vote for the man that will benefit America the most through the policies he will enforce.  Whoever you vote for make it a well thought out choice.

You must do this not because of the boy that died on that beach, but for the boys that may one day have to be called upon again to die on a beach somewhere else.  Choose well and think deep because the answer is more important than what color the candidate is, or is not.  Choose well because that choice is what will decide not only if we are on that future beach but also if we have the needed tools that get us off that beach,  if we are ever forced to go.

Think! Vote!

Keith has been frustrated with all the hype concerning weight loss. Visit www.IChooseThin.com.  He has attempted to create a place where you can obtain healthy weight loss knowledge without the pressure of someone attempting to sell you a specific product or weight loss pill. The information gathered has been arranged in an easy to use format. www.IChooseThin is the result of a two year quest for information without the hype normally associated with weight loss.
