This article describes an example of a typical day of person who has a stammer or stutter. Now not all people who have a stammer are the same but the majority are in fact quite similar. Only a person who has had this form of speech impediment can truly understand just how frustrating and annoying it is to have to live with a constant fear of stammering.
8.00am
I should really get out of bed however I have had a rather restless night, in fact I did not fall asleep until after 2am. I am not entirely sure why but my mind seems unable to completely switch off as my demons do not ever want to go to sleep. If you have a stammer you will no doubt understand what I am saying here.
8.10am
OK I am going to get up now as I should really have a shower and start making my way to work. I do not really want to go to work as it is not something I particularly enjoy mainly due to the speech difficulties I face on a daily basis.
8.55am
I arrive at work what joy! My colleagues all seem to be so buoyant and pleased to be there how sad. In reality I am jealous of their happiness and overall fluency.
1pm
I am off for lunch, an hours respite from the triviality of office life. It has been another messy morning; my speech has not been at its worst however I have probably substituted around a thousand words already.
3.00pm
Just had a major problem saying the word "Good" when attempting to say "Good afternoon" on the telephone. It was more of a block than a stammer, very embarrassing but I will cope.
5.00pm
On my way home after "getting through" another day of work. Am looking forward to a nice relax in front of the T.V.
8.30pm
A friend calls me on the telephone asking whether I would like to go for a couple of drinks. I decline as I am rather tired after my lack of sleep and stressful day at work.
11pm
Off to bed, let's hope I can get a good night's sleep tonight.
