The Better Plan for Rebuilding America--Obama or McCain?

During this week's debate, ask yourself who has the better plan for re-building the American and global economy. Obama or McCain?

The plan should be based on speculation about the candidates or their backgrounds, but based on analysis of the ideas each man puts forward.

First, what does each candidate identify as the prime causes of the collapse. Prime causes are important because these issues must be the place where new structures and oversight are put into place.

Second, identify who benefits from the plan? Weigh the facts carefully. Will we home owners really benefit if the government buys up their mortgages? How? What job seekers benefit from a government investment in "green" energy? How?

Third, what is the cost of each plan? How much is spend and when? To whom does the money go? Is the middle class assisted? Is small business helped? How is the money spent to be oversighted? Which officials are responsible for proper review? What penalties are to be used if violations are found?

Fourth, what is the plan's time table? Two years, ten years, six months? What is the intended outcome for the specifed period?

Fifth, how does the plan restore the global markets outside of the US? is is especially importantly, since China holds a trillion dollars of American debt.

Sixth, what are the new ideas proposed? How are these ideas justified? Currently, the takeover of credit and capital markets by the government is being justififed as "adding stability" and "restoring confidence." Are these sufficient reasons for a radical shift to government seizure, ownership, and distribution of private assets? Are there other plans? (See Glen Hubbard's plan (he worked for Bush 1), The Joint is Jumpin' : Glenn Hubbard's Plan to Restore Credit, Secure Homes, and Boost Jobs written about by me in an earlier article.)

Keep a score card. I plan to take notes.

Walter,
Hey I'll bet you're lonely wilthout any comments. LOL   I am not surprise, however.  People would rather rant and rave than look at the issues and make an informed decision about which candidate stacks up the best.  I am tired of hearing smears and hatred rather than reasoned discourse over facts and figures.  I also hear people carry on about how they would prefer not to vote because they just don't know who to vote for.  I consider that a cop-out.  Anyway, I discovered your article and want you to know that I have watched every debate and have pursused hundreds of documents and articles looking for a clearer picture of each candidate.  The fact that you have received no comments is a telling sign of ommision in doing one's homework.  Great article!  Thanks.

Neither candidate will solve the crises. The president of the United States is touted as the most powerful person on earth. This is a myth. He/she is the most visible person in the world - that's it. The president is CEO of 1/3 of the US Government. Big deal.

Can the president lower oil prices? No. Can he stop Iran from threatening us? No. Can he stop the congress from writing in endless earmarks? No. Can he stop inflation? No - and on and on. It is a myth that the president is a powerful person who can solve large problems.

Capitalism itself solves economic problems. Socialism creates economic problems. Politicians create problems when they start to believe they work for themselves. Working americans participating in capitalism - earning and spending money, will solve this crisis over time. That is the reality.

Walter,I respect your opinion but mine as you know is quite opposite about this Congress and our so called leadership. I have stated pages after pages about why this is all a farce, yes a farce. People talk about substance, but  seem to  ignore what they do not want to know and select the pieces that support their opinion.  So  as example do we really believe this bailout was an example of leadership as they like to profess?  Sorry the facts speak otherwise. It had nothing to do with people and what is transpiring today all across this land and world can be documented as such, yes fact.  Does it really matter?
