In historical terms, the time period between 1700 and 1799 is the 18th century. In Halloween terms, it is a wonderful time period because there are so many uncommon costume ideas that can be inspired by this period. A great way to begin your thinking about your next 1700's Halloween costume is to look for images or paintings of people during 18th century in Europe. Take a look at the things worn by royalty or nobility all across Europe but especially in countries such as Russia, France and England so that you can gain inspiration for a royalty costume to wear this Halloween.

Obviously, apart from royalty, there are a lot of other categories of people during the 18th century whose clothes may inspire you your next Halloween costume. During the same period of time there were bandits coasting across the water and then robbing ships of various fleets blind.

The pirate lifestyle and its consequences have been studied recently in the movie "Pirates of the Caribbean"; which makes pirate outfits very popular nowadays.. Indeed, the 18th century was one of the periods in the history that has been very good for bandits and there are a lot of history books that contain images of pirate clothes from this specific period of time.

The 1700's were also the time of revolutions. The French Revolution and, obviously, the American Revolution; which gave birth to the United States of America, occured during this period of time. These events bring about the chance of a great number of excellent historically accurate costumes.
You could wear a costume figuring Louis XVI or Marie-Antoinette, George Washington or even as an Austrian soldier as France declared war on Austria in 1792. The 18th century was so rich in historical and social issues and especially the revolutions that it gives you a bunch of ideas if you are looking for a specific and even an unique Halloween costume.

Finally, the general dress during that period of time is also something that can give you ideas for Halloween costumes - very fancy tuxedos, white crops, black shoes with a buckle, tricorne for the men and very fancy dresses, scarves, umbrellas or amazing wigs for the women. During the second part of the 1700's, people thought it was important to wear shocking clothes and if you want to wear that kind of Halloween costume, remember to add a strong touch of extravagance.

The best way to make 1700's Halloween costumes work for you is to really go all out in the planning and design.

Happy Halloween to you!
