For most who watched Senator John McCain's concession speech, you probably had to wonder, "Where was this heart-felt emotion and class during his campaign?" You couldn't help to be moved during his speech, and, if only he had run his campaign with that same emotion and tone, we can only wonder if he, instead of Senator Obama, would instead be our next President elect.

Instead, he chose the "low road" in trying to attain the highest office in the land, by nasty name-calling and attacks on Obama such as "socialist, and having "associations with known terrorists", etc. and along with not being able to separate himself from President Bush and his views, he was pretty much doomed from the get-go.

Along with these blunders, in this writer's humble opinion, one of the biggest he made was the choosing of Governor Sarah Palin, who was widely unknown, at least outside of her home state of Alaska. One would think that if he had not basically caved in to his party's elite and had selected a running mate of substantial stature like the person he seemed to really want, Joe Lieberman, maybe the outcome would have turned out a different, but, I guess we'll really never know what the outcome may have been.

At first though, Palin seemed to be able to energize her party and produce a large amount of excitement, but wound up being looked at as a "celebrity" who did little for the elections at large, and was not able to, as much as she tried, connect with "Middle America" the way McCain was able to in the beginning and certainly not the way Obama has done.

The elections are over now, finally, and Barack Obama has won the nomination for the Presidency. Mccain seems to be a fine man, a war hero, who has dedicated his life to serving his country and will continue to do so and the entire nation should applaud his lifetime commitment to our country, but let's face it, he could not keep pace with the democratic juggernaut, which was Obama's campaign.

Whether you voted for him or not, let's all get behind this man and hope that he is the man we have all heard him say he is, and hope he will be able to come through on at least some of the promises he has made, like seeing us not having to be in a war and seeing our economy turn back around. Certainly getting more taxes back would be a great achievement in itself. I guess all we can do is work hard, wait and pray for things to turn around and maybe, just maybe, Obama will be the man to help us achieve these goals.
