It was about 7:45 in the morning and as I was searching all over my home for the car keys my frustration level was starting to peak. I looked in all of the usual places until I achieved success by the lamp in the living room. As I grabbed the key chain I headed towards the door and knew that because of the disruption of my routine I had too little time for breakfast. Breaking all of the routines of years gone by I decided that I would slip into my local McDonalds fast food restaurant. After all, I could even get coffee and I would not be missing the most important meal of the day, even if it wouldn't be the healthiest.

As I navigated my car through the McDonalds parking lot I worked my way to the drive through menu board. I looked at the items that were available on the menu and started to speak into the nice box that sported a really nice television screen. The screen then started to fill with the items that I was ordering seconds after I spoke the item. After I completed my order a voice came out of the box and started to repeat my order back to me and that is when my world changed. The voice was foreign sounding, which is fairly odd considering I live in an EXTREMELY rural area of the United States. When the order was being read back to me I had a very difficult time understanding the words that were being spoken. I asked to have them repeated back to me and again there was my inability to comprehend the words that were being spoken because the accent was too thick for me to decipher.

After a couple of failed attempts I looked at my watch and decided to just pull up to the window and correct my order face to face. Upon pulling up to the window I was greeted with the typical farm girl looks of a young girl that had sunshine emanating from her personality. I quickly corrected my order and joked with her about how hard it was to understand the guy taking the orders on the drive thru. I joked that he should be taken off the microphone and be put on the grill. She said that it would be really hard for him to working on the grill because the guy working drive thru was not in the store. I asked how that was possible and she informed me how cool it was because the guy working the drive thru is not in the store but in a call center somewhere else.

As I drove away from the window I realized that another American job had been outsourced!

As a nation the United States no longer has many factories and we produce virtually nothing. As a nation we do not answer the telephones when we call a 1-800 number. Our trucking companies are in the process of moving to Mexico because of the new legislation that allows open transit from Mexico. Our computer jobs are leaving by the thousands and now the local 18 year old kid at my local McDonalds has been outsourced. Pretty soon the local kids earning minimum wage will be out of work too. But that will be alright because at least everything will be affordable, even if nobody has the money to buy anything.

America, when are we going to wake up and realize we are losing our country?

Mr. Keith, I respect your work immensley but in my opinion sadly never. We are what I have been writing to. The bovine. Open the gate and let us graze. Good job. Hey I won't miss them. They are no longer All American, but then again what is?

I had a similar experience when I was in Vancouver one year. I was in a hotel across the street from a Pizza Hut. I looked up Pizza Hut in the phone book and ordered a pizza. The operator took my order, asked where I was staying and told me the address of the nearest Pizza Hut where I could pick up my order. But I said, "That address is over a mile from where I am. How about the Pizza Hut across the street?" He informed me that there was no Pizza Hut across the street, even though I assured him that I was looking at it out my window. I hung up in discust.

Free trade is not fair trade.  We are lowering our standard of living to the poorer nations of the world.

Keith, that's why we have to hold onto things that are eternal and not temporary. You just never know what will be outsourced, next!

Prophetically, the results of that are all around us! If He is not our Source, we have already outsourced and substituted someone/thing for Him.

hi mr. keith,
it is a sad state of affairs in our nation. someone dropped the ball (starts with B maybe?) an all are suffering. my son was tired of working 8 hours at home depot, busting his butt moving heavy doors and sheetrock, etc., and has now joined the air force. my youngest son couldn't wait to get his license, as i remember those same feelings well, only gas was 33 cents a gallon, and my son can't go far as a senior in school. my daughter works 11-7 at night at a diner and during the day, she splits her time between working at a vet's and taking EMS classes to be on the ambulance squad. i kind of feel bad for Mr. Obama, i think everyone is counting on him to make some big changes, and i pray he does.

thanks for a good article,

best regards,

sue

My one big fear is that the United States of America has seen the end of it's glory days and we are now in the downward spiral of our history.

I was against Obama but now I hope for nothing but the best for him and for our nation.

All I can say is wow!! The McDonald's corporation does not get much of my money now, but if they expand this issue, I promise that will end my relationship with them. I hope other consumers will follow my thinking and stop doing business with companies like this.

If EVERY American refused to have a conversation with someone in India, to conduct business, jobs would start to flow back to America.

Alas, that is not happening as we, as a nation, march ourselves off of the cliff into history!

LoL, that closing line sounded just like a Bernie Mac line ~ sure hoping the order- taker position hasn't been outsourced to India and it makes you wonder where if the accent was so thick ~ something I would rather not know LoL!!! Guess I needed a chuckle before retiring entirely for the evening in light of my never-ending ordeal with hopeless car mechanics ~ great article! Suz
