Without paper embellishments, many scrapbookers wouldnt know where to turn! There are so many unique ways to use paper circles, squares and other shapes on scrapbooking pages, its no wonder that these items are part of everyone scrappers toolkit. If you're a die-hard paper embellishment fan, you may be wondering how you can use your carefully selected pieces in other projects. Here are five ways to use your paper embellishments in scrapbooking and other crafts.

-Make your own patterned paper: If you have several small to medium sized embellishments, you can dress up any piece of cardstock by making your own patterned paper. Lay out the embellishments over the cardstock in a pattern that looks good before you start designing the rest of the layout. To save on your embellishments, remove the pieces that will be hidden behind your pictures and title.

For example, arrange small circle embellishment in diagonal rows all across the page for a patterned effect. Or, place medium sized square embellishments in each of the four corners.

-Dress up a matted photo: Remove the frame and glass from your photo and take out the mat. Use your paper embellishments in an all-over pattern, or just in a few key areas on the mat. Make sure to secure the embellishments completely before flipping over the mat. You can even layer the embellishments so that they intrude on parts of the photo; this technique works nicely with flourish embellishments. No mats on your photos? No problem! Cut some of your heavier paper to make a frame for your photos.

-Make some magnets: Medium to large sized embellishments make perfect magnets for your refrigerator or memo board. Add some foam core to the back of your embellishments and cut it to fit the shape. Use magnetic tape to create your one of a kind magnets.

-Customized calendar: You can make any calendar customized with the use of paper embellishments. Frame the existing artwork with your embellishments, or completely cover the artwork to make your own design. This is a great way to get use out of a calendar that you don't particularly like. You can also use small paper embellishments to label important dates. Small circles with birthday cakes make great birthday reminders. A small Christmas tree embellishment will highlight the holiday. You can choose different embellishments for special family events. If you have young children, this could be a way to help them read the calendar.

-Mini-album: Large paper embellishments can be used as backings for a mini-album. Take four to five rectangle paper embellishments and attach wallet sized photos. Decorate them with smaller embellishments and use a binder ring, grommets with ribbon or even staples to keep the pages together. Mini-albums make great gifts for grandmothers or new moms who want to have pictures on hand all the time. The purse-sized albums help you make good use of your embellishments.
