What is inspiration? It is the desire to do what you have to do to reach your goal. You start with visualizing the your happiest and most fulfilled self, and then decide what you have to achieve to realize that vision. According to that you fix your goal. The next step is planning a course of action to reach your goal. This plan is basically a set of smaller goals to be achieved over a certain period of time for your ultimate goal to be realized.
Up to this point it's comparatively easy. Now comes the doing part, and that is where inspiration and motivation comes into play. Initially, i.e. just after you've fixed your goal and made your plans, you'll have lots of it. But if you are the average Joe, you'll work quite diligently at it for the first week, may be at best the second too, but then the warm-fuzzy feeling will start to drain.
Contrary to common perceptions, inspiration is not that warm-fuzzy feeling that keeps you excited for the first few days of your journey. It's the utter craving in your heart for your goal, coupled with a strong belief in yourself and in what you're doing, that keeps you at it for years and decades (i.e. as long as it takes for you to reach your goal) together. Remember, no one ever became great by giving up, and none of them had it easy. Every success story is a story of perseverance, of not giving in, of stubborn continuation in one's journey in the face of adversity and of the strongest of beliefs in one's dreams. Here is a glimpse of some of those stories.

" It must be borne in the mind that the tragedy of life does not lie in not reaching your goal; the tragedy is in not having a goal to reach. Not a calamity to die without dreams not fulfilled but a calamity not to dream. Not a disaster to be unable to capture your ideal; it is a disaster not to have an ideal to capture. Not a disgrace not to reach the stars but a disgrace to have no stars to reach. Not failure but low aim is sin."
Benjamin Ewise
I chose this quote because I've learnt that it is better to dare to try than not to attempt at all.

" Acquire the courage to believe in yourself. Many of the things that you have been taught were at one time the radical ideas of individuals who had the courage to believe what their own hearts and minds told them was true, rather than accept the common beliefs of their day."
Ching Ning Chu
" People say they love that I think outside the box. Really, I say, I didn't even know there was a box."
Mathew Moran
" Whenever you fail, don't ever think that you failed because you are not worthy. If you have come this far, then there must be something in you that brought you this far; a fire that pushed you on, so put some more gas on the fire and push on. Get up, dust yourself off and come right back, not only with a vengeance but also with a plan to win."
