Do your eyes puff up regular? Is your eyes coiled with black circles? Do the bags under your eyes sag heavily? Are you embarrassed about your eye puffiness, if you answer yes to all questions then don`t panic because there are treatments for reducing puffy eyes and conditions relating to the eyes? If we can get to the bottom of why puffy eyes have happened then there is every possibility of curing the problem. What is the cause behind puffiness developing around the eyes? Pinpointing the actual cause ups the odds for the appropriate medication being prescribed and prevents that particular cause causing problems again.

We associate eye puffiness to lack of sleep. Should this not be the case in your case after catching up with sleepy eye, then puffiness may be caused by other of which will need to be determined by your doctor. Mild skin puffiness can occur through numerous factors. Most primary are allergies and skin disorders i.e. dermatitis which you can expect irritation, reddening and skin itch. Eyes puff up and swell if fluid retention settles round them. Known to happen more so because of climate and hormone levels. Puffy eyes are also marked down as heredity. Swollen eyes is not normally seen a symptom of seriousness. How to reduce and treat puffy eyes is a question we answer with good news by clarifying there are ways to treat and prevent them.

One effective prevention method is to elevate the head at every possibly moment when resting or sleeping. Elevation will control extra fluids from filling up round the eyes. For instant relief apply a cold water compress to the skin just under the eye to take swelling down. Cucumber, potato or apple sliced and placed over the eyes will refresh, reduce and soothe tired eyes. Chilled gel masks or used moist tea bags do the same. Cotton wool pads soaked in cold water or milk and applied for 10 to 15 minutes works wonders.

Skin that envelops the eye is sensitive so take care when treating them and with what you treat the eyes with. Does haemorrhoid cream reduce puffiness? As we speak we have no true proof and with no clinical evidence to prove otherwise you should avoid using haemorrhoid cream unless suggested by your GP. The cream is known to cause irritation and dryness leading to inflammation. If you have tried different methods for reducing puffiness and no sign of the swelling going down then see your doctor so he/she can eliminate other possible causes like kidney or thyroid issues. Puffiness can also derive as a side effect (allergic reaction.)

Useful tips below if you think you look a "Sight for Sore Eyes."

  • If the body becomes dehydrated it starts to retain water which can lead to puffy eyes. Drink plenty of water to help control this.
  • Sleep on your back if possible because this helps with circulation. Sleeping on your tummy has the reverse affect therefore allowing fluid to flood the eyes.
  • Leaving make-up on overnight is unhealthy and can cause irritation.
  • Alcohol and salty foods may increase fluid retention which ultimately can lead to puffy eyes.
  • It is known for some women to retain water prior to their period, and in particular women this can show around the eyelids. Prevent this happening by maintaining good hormonal balance. Include in your daily diet fruit and vegetables and low in glycemic foods.

Particular disorders like high blood pressure, dermatitis, blepharitis (eyelid inflammation), orbital cellulites (infection of the orbital tissue), chalazion (benign tumors on the eyelids) are a series of conditions which can affect the eyes in which the outcome "puffiness." As with the ageing process skin loses elasticity and this can give cause for the eyes to swell. It is imperative to use a quality UVA/UVB sunscreen block. This will protect the eyes from damaging sun ray`s. Keep your diet rich in antioxidants and if this is not possible take supplements. Moisturize skin round the eyes to prevent dryness. Dull corneas are a sign of severe vitamin A deficiency. Vitamin A is an element of importance in night vision. A well balanced daily diet of fresh fruit vegetables and certain nuts is helpful.

One common reason for eye strain is poor lighting while reading or sewing or other. This causes a weary, dull feeling that can simply be avoided by proper lighting. By making a few minor adjustments to how you do things will help you avoid eye strain. Things can include the angle at which you hold a magazine or book while reading. Closeness can strain the eyes. Be careful of long hours sitting in front of the television or computer, have a break. If in doubt about eye issues consult an optician. There is no special way to completely relax the eyes and the surrounding muscles other than to just close them.

  • Want your eyes to sparkle then soak 1 tsp dry amla in cup of water overnight. Strain through a muslin cloth and add another cup of water. Splash your eyes every morning with solution.
  • Treat dark circles with a mixture of pulpy tomato (quarter,) turmeric powder, lemon juice and gramflour (besan). Apply over darkened skin area and rinse off once dried.
Look after your eyes and they will look after you - so you get to see things more clearly.
