The master database, the essential component to direct the operating system, windows registry, has integral flaws with the design. The registry was developed to organize and keep track of those text based .ini files used in the older versions of windows operating system. When a database like structure, window registry was formulated, the task of operating system became easier, as all necessary information is stored in this database. To run any application, the operating system has to refer to the registry. Over a period of time, software developers and even the developers of windows operating system overlooked windows registry and started dumping every changes to the windows registry.

While new updates included additions to registry, there is no maintenance of registry associated with the operating system. This is because the operating system had no means to check the validity of the registry entries. Software installation and un-installation processes have been given freedom to add and delete registry entries. As software cannot be started without its registry entry, software providers promptly added necessary entries in the registry. The un-installation processes take no care to delete entries in the registry. Further, the temporary entries created by the software and operating system remain in the registry forever.

When you browse internet, several programs like Trojans, adware and malware are downloaded to your computer. These programs also create registry entries to track user performance. Sometimes, malicious codes are attached to these programs causing registry changes. The operating system does not disallow third party programs from editing the registry. When the central database is open to changes, hackers exploit it to use the registry as a backdoor to enter into any computer connected to internet. The security of the operating system is compromised when registry is accessed in the wrong way.

As you continue using your computer, thousands of temporary files and intermediate configurations are generated and these are stored in windows registry. Obviously, the size of the registry increases and the operating system takes several seconds to fetch a data from the large registry. When no maintenance software is used to maintain a tight registry, your PC performance slows down and the system will reach an unstable state.

You will never deny that your computer works slower as days pass by. This is because of the irrelevant information present in the registry. When windows registry is left uncared, the booting time increases and PC performance is greatly reduced. The situation is much worse when hackers include malicious codes into tracking programs to change registry entries. If that happens, the operating system will function erratically and at some point of time, the whole system may crash, leading to loss of data.

All these problems can be prevented and controlled when you take measures to keep registry clean. There is a registry editor program available with your operating system which allows manual editing of windows registry. This manual editing should not be done if you don't have experience in working with the registry. I would recommend using only the best registry cleaners , the number one pick on my review site is a good place to decide on which one to use, as I have tested them for functionality. Use of registry recovery and registry repair products is the best way to protect your registry from irrelevant information.
