Ok lets talk one topic, foreclosures, because I have and could fill pages on other incidents but this just might draw some interest? These are facts, not what you receive from our politicians, who in my opinion know nothing of their very own laws, systems and organizations and if they even function if at all. Now why would I be surprised, I'm not. I just thought I'd explain how very pitiful it really is.
A] Now our governor says "if your having mortgage problems contact your bank or lender and get this, they will be happy to work something out with you". Well the facts are Mr. Governor you don't know your facts at all. How do I know, its called first hand experiences. Rhetorically we would be really lucky if you new anything about how this state operates.
B] Now, fact is, the bank does not have to do anything, period. In fact most won't and the ones that do will tell you "if" you qualify, they will give you what they will do, take it or leave it. Now why is that important to the rest of this article?
C] Well in the mail we received a letter from one of those HOPE places in Jacksonville Fl. The letter explained that we may be eligible for a government program called " Economic Advantage Loan Modification". Now the title alone sounds great. The offering is as follows: Reduced principal, Interest payments, Loan Modification, principal reduction, Delinquent Mortgage Payment Assistance and get this The NEW Home Savers Advantage program. They further state their program is specifically designed for "Home Retention". Now to those in trouble, the young, the elderly, the uneducated this is a message from heaven.
Now a call to the company produced the following. Their representive stated "we have been doing business in Florida for 5 years now", so what? "We are members of the BBB", so what? They have a License but don't have the number, but they explained it isn't necessary in Florida? You mean I get to give them all my personal information and then for a fee, mind you, they will see if I qualify. However, they want to be right up front in saying that they only have arrangemnents with certain mortage companies and you must be two months behind in payments. Yes and they understand how careful one has to be, even as I listened to all the chatter in the background..
D] Now a check with every agency of the state indicated this company is unknown, not licensed, yet operating. Yes, every state agency had nothing. They didn't seem concerned at all. A call to the attorney general indicated the same. The question came up "do you want to make a complaint". Well, what will you do with that? We keep them "on file" until someone decides to do something. That is, if and when we get enough complaints. Oh really, so one complaint isn't enough to find out if there is a problem? They recommend I call my local county. Ok, I'll do that.
E] Calls to the County Administrator produced the same. Calls to the county commissioners, the same. In fact no one knew who they were. Nor did they seem concerned.
F] Now I contacted HUD project HOPE and found out about their programs and asked about this company and they to stated they didn't know and they were not listed with them. Now I can say the HUD representative was helpful, although there isn't much he could do. In fact it depends on any number of criteria and your location. The bottom line, don't expect anything significant if at all. Always call a known and licensed company and don't depend on government, make sure!
G] A call to the paper produced the same amount of interest.
H] A call to the governors office produced even less. No real interest nor concern. Have you tried, yes, yes, yes. Well sorry, try your local, already have.
The bottom line who the hell cares. Evidently not many anymore, very few. Only those exploited, taken advantage of and in need and who are living the pain know and that is reality.. The rest, just another days work. Yes, Lies, fabrications, misinformation and distortions, America today.
