I had been divorced for the good part of two years or so, and I had been working for IBM for about 8 or 9 years at the time. I have a dear friend of mine who I knew, who would go to Sam's (which was a country/western nightclub that we used to frequent or go to), to listen to the band, have a couple of drinks, and dance with some of the locals that we knew there. Well, I had been admiring this beautiful woman who worked in inspection at IBM, and wanted to meet her in the worst way, meaning very badly. I had been admiring her for quite sometime, and honestly thought she was Native American. She had the most intense brown eyes, and beautiful long flowing dark brown hair....and a beautiful "Olive" complexion, and she was gorgeous!

I had to meet her...but how? I was kind of shy in those days, and had been married for 15 years before my divorce, and had been out of circulation and really didn't know how to approach a lovely lady at all. Well, I turned to my friend John, and we were looking through a door glass to the lab where she worked, and I asked him, "Do you know her"? "Yes" he replied, "Why"? "I want to meet her really bad, she is gorgeous"! He said, "I can probably introduce her to you, if you really want to meet her"! I was so excited that he knew her that I was about to jump out of my skin with anticipation. John and I had known each other for quite some time, we even used to be roommates, and he was and still is a great friend.

Well, he opened the door, and went in to go and talk to her, she was not even remotely approachable for me, only because of my shyness. I hid behind the door. Now you have to imagine that I am not a tall man, as a matter of fact, I am short. This window was quite high, so I had to hop up and down to see what was going on. I saw him approach her, and bounced up again, and saw him pointing to the door. My heart was racing, I thought I was going to hyper-ventilate, when suddenly the door swung open, and John looked at me, and said, "Well, c'mon, she said she would meet you". I was sweating bullets, how was I so lucky to meet this georgeous woman? My palms were sweating when we approached her, she had been living with this guy that was over six feet tall, and they had recently broke up, I was so nervous, I was sweating bullets!

The time finally came when John introduced us, and all it was like was like being in a "Twilight Zone", kind of a Charlie Brown's teacher's voice syndrome, John's voice was like a murmur in the background, (sort of like wa-wa-wa-wa wa), I was to busy looking into her beautiful dark brown eyes, and it was like I was meeting a celebrity, when all of a sudden, John's voice came in loud and clear, "Gary, I would like for you to meet my SISTER"!! All of a sudden, I swallowed really hard, (I think everybody heard it), it was, a gulp! My jaw fell to the table, and I was stunned, while they both seemingly got a real kick out of seeing me squirm. It was worth it though, we knew each other for only three months, I proposed to her, and she said yes, but made me sweat it for a while, and we have now been married for 27 years. She is still my very best friend, and what a gorgeous wife and mother to my children. That, my friends, is how I met my wife...stay tuned for the wedding!!
