It is a phenomenal fact of life that when you buy a particular brand-name product, you oftimes assume that other products under that same brand name would be as good, or as bad, as the particular item that you purchased. Unfortunately, it isn't always that simple. A fabulous television or camera doesn't necessarily mean you will get a great cell phone or dishwasher or vise versa.

I would like to take a little time here to talk about the Samsung Dishwasher. Thinking that the washer and dryer of the same brand, which I had purchased over a year ago, was such a good investment, I stepped into a quagmire of the above mentioned consumer delusion. A couple of months ago my dishwasher broke, so I decided to go for a Samsung Dishwasher. Even though, the salesman at the store highly recommended the Bausch, I had my heart (bad idea) set on the Samsung brand.

The quality difference between the washer/dryer and the dishwasher is astronomical. The dishwasher has to be set on Heavy-duty and Sanitize (which takes approximately 3 hours to wash a small load of dishes) to get even the most minimal amount of refuge from the dishes-and that's after rinsing them off in the sink first! This is one product I will never make the mistake of purchasing again and would never recommend it even to my most annoying antagonist! There is nothing I like about this dishwasher and for the price, it should do everything but dust your furniture!

I have only myself to blame for still having this monstrosity in my home, as I should have taken it back after the first week. I kept thinking that I was doing something wrong and kept reading the book over and over to make sure I was following the instructions to the letter. Since my husband and I live alone and our favorite pastime is going out to eat, we have very few dirty dishes to wash up and sometimes I would just wash them up by hand. This could be part of the reason that I didn't realize our dishwasher wasn't up-to-snuff as my Grandpa would say.

If any of you have already bought this item, I hope you purchased yours when the assemblers were having a good day.

Wow, Sandra, you had me thinking about going Samsung over the washer and dryer and especially when I had good experience with their TV. But I won'5t be going for ther dishwasher. Thanks for sharing this.

hi sandra,

i'm sorry about your dishwasher.

i had the same thing happen with one from sears, i don't know what brand name, but it was terrible, and i waited, but finally called sears and they gave me a different one. i wonder if that may be an option for you?

good luck,

best regards,

I have probably had it too long now--I can't remember when I actually bought it.  I probably should check into it, since I paid so much for it.
Thanks for reading, Sue.

hi sandra,
it would be worth checking into.
i think i had mine for 6 months!
bad design-i couldn't fit much in it.
and i simply told them the truth-i didn't like it, it didn't clean well, and it wasn't much use for a family of 6 at the time.
you can't lose anything by a phone call.
my best to you,
sue

Great consumer tip Sandra, well said. I have had this awful experience with a product that will remain nameless, but same thing, I bought one thing, (electronic equipment), and figured they would be the same quality for their camera, well, low and behold, it was not....I hate it when that happens. Thanks for sharing this with us, I think it is something we can all relate too!! thanks again, and I am going to be a fan...

Well at least it isn't a copycat American product with an All American name. Now we get down to really makes everything. Good job.

That's true.  I had a GE dishwasher prior to this one and it did a fantastic job of cleaning the dishes and was energy efficient, however, it began to leak somewhere from the bottom and the warranty had run out.
Thanks for reading and commenting, Robert.
Have a great week.

Sandra, I enjoyed your article and have had similar experiences. Last year I purchased a Sears refrigerator (bottom freezer) and the freezer was a nightmare, icing over and blocking the air vent. We were able to return it in exchange for a GE and have had no problems since. (The Sears model was actally built by LG.) Just because a company is good at one type of product doesn't mean they are good at another. Whirlpool has always made a wonderful dishwasher but I don't want that company for my stove. I'm just glad my 42-year-old Yamaha grand piano doesn't 'roar' when I play it!

Thanks, Nancy.  That's right, you can't count on a good product of different areas within the same brand name--they could possibly be  built in different countries.  For instance a cell phone in Japan and a dishwasher in China.  Everything on the market today is a 'grab-bag' of surpises!

Unfortunately we also bought the same Samsung Stainless dishwasher and it does not clean dishes either; no matter what brand of soap, how much soap or how one puts in the dishes, or which cycle.  Very frustrating, very pathetic.  Poor service from Samsung too. It's been 6 months and no satisfaction yet.

Sad that consumers have to spend so much money to learn they have been duped!
From now on, I read the reviews of products before I buy.
Thanks for reading and commenting.

Your review is right on the mark. I only wish I had seen it before I bought this sad excuse for a dishwasher. All it's good for is rinsing off your dishes, it certainly does not clean them. Have had mine 7 weeks and I also kept thinking I was doing something wrong, now I'll have to deal with Samsung to try and get rid of this thing, Wish me luck.

Over and over I hear that this is a very poor product and I also hear that trying to deal with Samsung on the issue is like pulling hen's teeth!  You may need more than luck--like a lawyer.

Thank you for your opinion.  I just wish I had read this before I too purchased our Samsung dishwasher.  What a disappointment for such a large cost, most of the dishes do not come out clean after wash timesof 2-3 hours depending on the cycle.  I was foolish enough to buy from a wholesaler that will not refund my money, and only suggest that I contact the service department for warranty work.

The problem with dealing with the manufacturer warranty, is that they claim that it runs, so therefore it works; it works, therefore there is no claim---imagine that!
We may be stuck with our lemons!

I wish I had read your review BEFORE buying mine. We have had the worst experience and the customer service from Samsung has been worse. In fact I think the lack of customer service is the bigger issue than the Samsung dishwasher breaking twice. We are on our second dishwasher of the same model and I wish we could have just replaced it with a different brand all together. Hopefully getting this one repaired won't take two and half months.

this is a great article. I like the way Sandra pointed out that you can not judge the reliability of a product buy the reputation of a company that makes other products quite well. I had a nightware experience with the Samsung diswasher DMR77LHS.
Out of the box the error code would flash  LE than shut down. The girl at Samsung asked who installed it and implied that it may have been installed incorrectly. After three weeks The serviceman arrived and replaced the entire computer board and related switches he indicated that there was a known problem with a false readout so Samsung redesigned the computer board. I originally told service that there was a small amount of water that leaked so he also replaced the entire motor and pump assembly. I watched in amazement how the quite skillfull technician rebuilt this robust looking attractive stainless steel tub (thats why I purchased it) He put it back in tested the electronics and left. We went out to dinner that night kind of glad that the final piece of a costly kitchen remodel was complete. My wife christened the kitchen by cooking dinner Sunday evening than putting the dishwasher on delay start. Imagine my dismay to see the error code flashing LE LE LE the first thing in the morning. I called Samsung again that Monday morning they scheduled service

Just Purchased the DMR77 on the 22 of August 09, Installed it on the 25of August 09, Didn't clean the dishes nor did it dry them, even on the Heavy cycle. The Unit is good looking but not worth the money. Have had 2 service men come out and look at it. There conclusion was that the dishwasher was going through all the cycles and working properly but not cleaning the dishes. My old Kitchenaid of 10 yrs befor the hurricane ( Katrina) I m not getting any satisfacition from the Samsung manufacture; They are telling me they donot give refunds. I have never paid that much for any appliance. I am seeking legal advice. "Del "from New Orleans

Hi:

Pros: stainless steel, large tub, electronic touch control
Cons: Purchased in Dec 08. Commenting Sept 09.

Does not clean dishes at all. Very poor design and quality control.

As I am commenting an appliance repairman is replacing the motor. Must run hot water in sink before turning on in order to achieve any form of cleaning. Cannot use powdered soap. Buttons are so sensitive to touching that I have had to tape a piece of cardboard over them to prevent accidentally activating the dishwasher in the middle of a cleaning cycle; to do so means you must run the whole cycle again from the beginning as there is no memory of where it left-off.

I am replacing the worst appliance I have ever purchased this week. I spent 800 dollars on it 9 months ago. What is the point of keeping it?

I am so dissatisfied with Samsung I will not buy another item as long as I live.

Psient
