When confronted with a marriage in need of repair, many partners can become weighed down and weakened focusing only on the negative situation at hand, rather than taking a step back to pull strength from the positive aspects of the relationship.

No matter what kind of hardships your marriage is facing today, there was a time when things were good. Remembering better times, happy memories and the things that brought you together in the beginning is a wonderful way to bring new life to a troubled relationship and will help both of you find the strength necessary to get through hard times.

There comes a time in every marriage when issues arise that must be dealt with and worked through. When the time comes for you and your partner to address issues in your marriage it is imperative that neither of you lose sight of the positive aspects of your relationship, particularly of the feelings and attraction that initiated your connection.

Set aside time together where you both agree to avoid discussing current problems and spend time reminiscing about the beginning of your relationship and what brought you together. Recall the unique qualities and characteristics that initially attracted you to one another and focus on the common interests, complementary strengths and harmonizing attributes that brought you together and helped to form the strong bond that has carried you through your life together up to now.

Whether it was a whirlwind romance or an extended courtship, and regardless of the number of years since your wedding, every marriage can benefit from revisiting the beginning and harking back to a time when things were less complicated and the future was full of possibilities and shared goals. Doing this allows each of you to remember those old feelings, revisit the hopes and dreams you shared and focus on your relationship ' s primary strengths.

Take time, both individually and together, to recall the things that brought you together as a couple. What was the first thing you noticed about your partner? What helped you decide that this was the person you wanted to spend the rest of your life with? What unique qualities made you fall in love with each other? What hopes and dreams did you share? What was your favorite activity to do together?

These things make up the foundation of your partnership and are the best place to find the strength to rebuild your marriage and to move forward as a strong, united couple. If you take the time to revisit the early days of your relationship and to emphasize the positives therein, you will likely find that these same feelings, hopes and desires still reside within you and simply need to be reawakened and rekindled.

Going back to the beginning allows each of you to remember the unique attributes that brought you together as a couple and the common interests that you shared. Whether it was basket weaving, board games or skydiving, the common interests that you used to partake in offered powerful bonding opportunities and created lasting memories. Sometimes, once the initial passion-filled phase of the relationship gives way to work, children or other responsibilities, it is easy to lose sight of the importance of shared interests and to let these treasured times together fall to the wayside. Reviving these common interests and partaking in these shared activities can revive that initial passion and bring you closer now, just as they did then.

Your efforts to forge a strong, successful marriage can also be bolstered by revisiting the time when you were establishing you relationship, which will remind you of the strengths that have contributed to your success in building a life together. These same strengths can now be drawn on to fortify your partnership as you repair and rebuild your marriage.

You owe it to yourself and to your partner to take this important step towards coming back together as a strong, connected couple. Going back to the beginning to draw from your initial strengths allows you to work together as a team to reawaken the hopes, dreams, goals and shared interests that have always been there. Reclaim the emotions, ardor and devotion that your relationship was initially built on and you will find revived passion and appreciation for each other and your marriage.
