A weapon of mass destruction, our tongues,
residing and nestled, between teeth and gums.
Small yet sinister, laying low on the prowl,
awaiting to strike, I can hear those tongues growl.
Oh, no here it comes about to release,
an onslaught of words bypassing the teeth.

Critical, negative, no kind verbs,
bashing, tongues lashing, piercing words.
Oh names will not hurt me, we boldly proclaim,
but in silence we suffer, from the sting and the pain.
Wounded by tongues causing mass destruction,
tearing down folks, creating dysfunction.

Sons cursing fathers, fathers cursing sons,
mothers hurting daughters, from her words, by her tongue.
Tongues spewing words that can never come back,
lodging in hearts, they destroy,  they attack.
Attacking the hearts, they destroy from within,
discouraging hopes, telling some you can't win.

Tongues so destructive and out of control,
breaking down many, crushing the soul.
Dreams and desires all dashed away,
speaking our minds, we don't care what we say.
Talents of many now in remission,
struck down by tongues, by words we were dishing.

So think before speaking play a positive part,
the tongue only speaks what comes from the heart.

For out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaks.*

Wow! This is excellent and so true. From a content viewpoint, you couldn't have said it better. From a poem construction viewpoint, you said it perfectly; the rhythm and flow is great. Thanks for this.

Yes Rodney, the tongue can be a cold hearted weapon of mass destruction. It is up to us to fight back with a silent tongue, For where there is love in the heart it speaks for itself.

Rodney, this was very well thought out, very well written, and very true in content. Tongues are Weapons of Mass Destruction!! Your poem expounds on truth, and insight to how words can devastate those whom they are being said too.....I love the ending, the message, the wisdom, and I will quote you if you don't mind...
"So think before speaking play a positive part,
the tongue only speaks what comes from the heart".

Well, said, well written, and well done!!! your friend in pen, and your new fan, Gary.
