Scabies is not the result of being dirty but it's actually a microscopic mite that causes the scabies rash. The body has an allergic reaction to this infestation. It may only be five to ten on the skin but the females burrow under the skin and lay their eggs. Sometimes the burrows can be seen by the eye . However, since they are the thinness of a hair they may be hard to detect. A keen dermatologist will look for them during the examination to diagnosis the skin rash. One sign is strong itching, however this can be true of other skin rashes including impetigo, symptoms of eczema, hives and several other common types of red skin eruptions. The itching can make it very difficult to sleep and often benadryl or an antihistamine is necessary. Though it sounds creepy, scabies are not due to dirt or having a lifestyle of poverty. They can strike anyone and have been found in fancy nursing homes as well as private schools and college dorms. Scabies can be considered a std disease but it also is communicated in families just by prolonged hand holding or hugging. Sharing clothing is also a no-no as it can be a way that scabies is passed on. There are some natural cures used in India which involve mixing tumeric with neem oil. In the United States, the pesticide cream is used as the primary line of attack. It's easy to feel ashamed or agitated by this diagnosis, but the treatment is very effective if directions are followed. You will get your life back and this phase will be gone.
