Picnic tables are basically modified tables that come with benches and are mostly used when eating meals outdoors. Whether it’ a picnic party or just families enjoying a meal together outdoors, picnic tables are great for recreation and having fun. Picnic tables are not just restricted to parks these days and can be in your patio, porch, back yard or gazebo.

It is a misconception to think that picnic tables are only rectangular in shape when in fact you can also have them in round, square, hexagon and octagon. Rectangular picnic tables, however, are still the all time favorite and can be found in parks and backyards. These are safe to use in any location, comfortable, and provide plenty of seating. Square picnic tables are perfect for face-to-face seating and encourage group interaction. These tables usually come with 4 bench seats that can accommodate up to 8 adults, which is less than a traditional rectangle table.

Round picnic tables also have plenty of room to sit around and are easy to enter and exit especially when people need to get in or get up. Hexagon tables can seat 8 or more people comfortably and have an easy walk-through design. This seating arrangement gives a feeling of togetherness. Octagons, on the other hand, can seat anywhere between 12 and 14 people and are well suited for large families or big groups of people.

These days there are a variety of picnic tables available from picnic tables for small children to people with disabilities. For example, the children’s picnic table that was designed with small children in mind is playful, comfortable, very child-friendly and safe. Universal-access picnic tables come with extra leg space and knee clearance. They are designed to accommodate persons of varying sizes and abilities and usually have extended tabletops. These tables come with spaces in-between to allow people on wheel chairs to sit amidst everybody and interact with everyone, as opposed to always being at the end of the table. Picnic tables can also be portable, which can be carried to the picnic site and set up, or foldable, which are similar and also easy to put together.

Various materials are used for making picnic tables these days. This includes aluminum, wood, plastic, recycled plastic, plastic-coated or powder-coated, concrete, and metal. Prices range from $30 to $2000. While it’s definitely cheaper to build your own picnic table or buy one of those easy to assemble picnic tables, it would require a lot of time and expertise. It is often considered less of a headache to buy a picnic table pre-assembled.
