5 Tips To Keep Your Wedding Signature Platter Looking Brand New

Posted: Friday, January 23, 2009

If you are not familiar with what a wedding signature platter or plate is, it is a unique twist on the idea of a traditional wedding guest book. Instead of having your guests sign a guest book, they sign a personalized hand painted platter or plate. The platter or plate is signed with a special ceramic pen. Once signed, the signature platter is baked in a home oven for 35 minutes at 300 degrees. This seals the pen ink on to the platter making the platter food safe. You have a great personalized keepsake of your wedding day.

There are some special instructions for taking care of your signature platter to help it stay looking new. The five tips below will help you keep your signature platter or plate looking like it has a showroom finish.

    • Do not use your wedding signature platter as an everyday dinnerware piece. Your platter is designed to be used and is food safe, but just like a new care; the more your platter is used the less new it will look. We recommend only using your platter or plate for special occasions.

        • Do not put your wedding signature platter in the dishwasher. The dishwasher produces very hot temperatures that can harm the pen ink. Prolonged exposure to the hot temperatures can cause the pen ink to dull in color. We strongly recommend that if you need to clean you platter always hand wash. When hand washing clean your platter with a mild soap and use a soft cloth.

            • Do not cut or carve on your wedding signature platter with sharp knives or other utensils. Just like any glazed dinnerware scratches can show up in the glaze from the use of silverware. It is strongly suggested that all cutting of food be done on a separate surface and then place the food on the platter for serving.

                • Do not display your signature platter in direct sun light. The harsh rays from the sun can fade the color of the signatures over time.

                    • Make sure to display your wedding signature plate in a safe location. Use a one piece cast iron plate stand for displaying on a self. Stay away from using two piece stands with a hinge. These stands can collapse and cause the platter to fall over. Displaying on a shelf is always much safer then hanging your platter from a wall. Keep this in mind when deciding where to display your wedding signature platter or plate.

Remember that your wedding signature platter is a one of a kind piece. It can never be redone. If you should chip it or break it, it can not be repaired. Always play it safe and you will be able to enjoy your signature platter or plate for years to come.

Thank you for the information. We are interested in getting a signature plate but only plan on displaying ours. It is nice to know that if we want we can use it.
