A general layout of a security camera system
When dealing with the security and safety of your home or shop, you need to consider a lot of things. Especially what do I want to achieve with my security system.
If you are serious about your security whether it is your home, your shop or office; you should be aware of some of the issues involved with security and how to be alerted.
Most sold are detector alarm systems, for they are cheap and easy to install. However, they send an alarm to one person or alarmcentral and display only 'alarm'. This may seem to be adequate at first but in practice it makes little sense. The reason being what caused the alarm, is it the dog or there a real problem like burglary. You will need to have a look at the situation as fast as possible in a safe way else you will be too late. Most burglars know this and make use of it.
An improvement has been made by setting also a CCTV system in your location. This way we can monitor afterwards what caused the alarm and what can we do about it. However, these get stolen as well for analysis of how to improve your next burglary.
The solution to both problems is described below:
A security camera system should have at least the following options:
Choose any IP-camera you like
Combine it with your detector alarm system, by making use of the alarm output
View your alarm video live through PDA or mobile phone or Computer
Protects your property - Motion activated cameras will record and send the images directly to the internet for storage
Is only active when you are arming the cameras, so that your privacy is never at risk
The cameras should send pre-alarm video and post-alarm video of an event.
The video is to be stored on internet servers in a well protected datacentre
No risk of images lost due to fire or theft of DVR
A maximum number of people are to be connected to your system for realtime alert messages worldwide
Very usefull for neighborhoods or alarmcentrals or guards
Set users with different log in screens to make sure everone has what they need and are allowed to use.
The Alarmcentral can look and send sms alerts immedeately with customizeable messages, within a minute.
The Neighbor can watch the scene and get notified.
The Guard can be notified whenever he is on duty
Must be integrateable with your current alarm system(s) and make you independant of manufacturer or supplier of equipment.

We will simply go through all the security system parts to explain.
At first we have a camera, and what type to be looking for will be discussed a little later.
The camera is connected to a web server that transmits the security images through the router to the internet. This makes viewing from anywhere in the world possible. Next the images are stored on the internet for we can only see live images in a camera. The storage facility will be responsible for sending the sms alerts to you and others. Most web servers have a possibility to connect external alarm inputs for taking action. In this case a Cash counter and alarm system.
When images are being transmitted to the internet server, the sms alerts will notify everybody within a minute. Thus creating a security camera system with high value and service.
When choosing a security camera for your system, you should consider the following:
1. Type of camera, either CMOS or CCD.
A CMOS is cheaper, but usually also gives more noise. This does not show on a computer screen right away, but when you want to see sharp images of a face of item it can be difficult because of the noise.
2. Size of the element 1/2 Inch or 3/4 Inch.
The bigger the size the more information it can record.
3. Size of the lens.
The bigger the lens, the more light it can carry to the element for pick up. This is important in low light conditions.
4. For night vision cameras, LED's are actually quite usuless.
Just go stand in front of such a camera with a white coat or something reflecting well. All your camera will record is a white mist and no details whatsoever.
Night vision cameras have a filter that block away normal daylight and see only in the dark.
Setting up the camera and web server or IP-camera for remote storage is actually very easy.
The protocol most of these systems contain is called FTP. This is the same protocol that is being used for uploading a website. It involves only a IP-adress (of the internet storage server), a username and a password.
