Did you know that there is a requirement stating that each of the nationwide consumer reporting companies have to provide you with a free copy of your credit report due to a recent admendment of the federal Fair Credit Reporting Act? Yes, it's true! At your request, the reports can be obtained from the annual credit report website; there is a limit of 3; once every 12 months for a free credit reports. So the tip to this would be to not ask for the free credit reports all at once, spread the requests for your free credit report throughout the year; this is also a good way to monitor identity theft as well.
Maybe you have used all your chances for a free credit report from the annual credit report services. If this is the case, you can always find a solution or 'back-up plan' from watching television. I know you have seen the commercial about free credit report; nice jingle with the young man playing the guitar. A hilarious commericial, but the right idea. I must forewarn you that most sites for your credit reports are entirely 'free'. The 'free' is only a trial.
The website for free credit report states: "When you order your free report here, you will begin your free trial membership..." Are you noticing the catch?..I was sure you would. Further down in their statement, free credit report then states: "...If you don't cancel your membership within the 7-day trial period...you will be billed $14.95 for each month that you continue your membership..." HA! So, where's the 'free' in all this?
Now, other than the recently amended act, there is another sure way to get your free credit report. Whenever you apply for a loan, try to buy a house, a car or take out a mortgage, you automatically get your credit score looked at. This would be a good time to find out your score for credit...and it's definitely 'free' on your behalf, because the company that is looking into your credit will have those worries. The only worries you'll have is whether or not your score is up to par, so keep your fingers crossed!
