Greetings Fellow Travelers...

I just enjoyed Valentines Day with my wife, Janie. We went to see "He's not into you" last night. Not bad for a chick flick.

The day before, on Friday, I learned something painful. It was then that my mind started working on this poem, which happens often. I just don't write them down- until now.

It's not very long, but it is sincere and I wrote it from the heart.

the phone that does not ring

When one can sit and be alone

In the center of a crowd

And hear the silence of a phone

Is there anything as loud?

Did you ever feel as low as this

Is it ever more unkind

To be the object never missed

To never come to mind?

Consider this, my friend, a while

Is there a sadder thing

Than the death of a child

Or a phone that does not ring?

Ken,

How very touching and beautifully expressed. Long on thought, short on words.

Thank you for sharing that with us,

Nancy

Good job Ken, I enjoyed it even if it was short. You need to do more of it.

Well done Ken, it says it all....some of the most famous poems are only a stanza long. This is very thought provoking, and especially the comparison of the child and the silence of a phone....very profound....Well done my friend, well done....your fan, and friend in pen.....Gary.

Yes, it's amazing how many people are truly alone. I remember once how disappointed this woman felt when I called by mistake and had to tell her it was a wrong number. I'm an "in the head" writer too. The BEST stuff comes out when I'm no where near a place to write. Haven't checked it out but there's a service called JOTT (?) that allows you to call and record, then will send you a hard copy via email. I really need to check that out, it's free.

I was not alone, but I know what you mean. A close relative was who I was wanting to hear from. Thank you, Val.

hi ken,

the last 2 articles i've read of yours have been depressed, and i have to say, i'm a little worried about you.

if you need to talk, e mail me.

your poem was most certainly heartfelt.

losing my mother, having a dream really happen of losing my teeth in my hand while talking to someone, and the death of a child, have always been my worse fears.

i have gone through the mother, losing 5 teeth due to stress causing my immune system to loosen my gums, and although i try to quickly get past the thoughts, i can't help but entertain the fact that my son may be in combat soon, and something may happen to him.

life is quite a challenge.

be well,

my best regards,

sue

I'm fine, Sue, thank you for your concern. Writing is my therapy. If you should notice I've stopped, then worry.

Hi Ken, thank you for sharing this simple, yet loaded poem. We need friends and it helps to remind me to be faithful to pick up the phone and call more often. Lord bless you and glad you had Valentine's day with your main squeeze :-)

Lovely, Ken. It says so much with so few words. Wonderful how you can put so much sentiment into such a short poem. I loved it. Thanks so much for sharing this with us.

Have a wonderful weekend---and may your phone ring endlessly.

Sandra
